SOS - Voice has disappeared

Hi SFNers - plea for help. After a week of afterschool activities for the local school, starting up the parent/toddler group, chasing up missing deliveries, meetings with builders, electricians and plumbers and repeatedly telling my moyenne enfant - YES SHE REALLY DOES have to go to school...I have lost my voice. Not helped by getting drenched in a random heavy downpour on Tuesday followed by 2 hours of sports to dry out.

Any recommendations on how to get my voice back?? I've had a steroid effervescent drink on Friday, maxilase sirop 3 x a day and been drinking lemon and honey.

Still just a squeak...hubby had a peaceful weekend so there was a silver lining for him, but not so useful this week for me and the kids club activities to be without a voice! Whistle is being delivered this afternoon!

In the meantime...all suggestions for remedies - especially instant ones -greatfully received x

its coming back today...I've had lots of honey dissolved in lemon green tea and a glass of port at bedtime...as well as meds from the Dr. I am going to be careful though, no shouting or singing in the shower for a while.

I have it now and again, usually at inopportune moments. Nothing comes out, I cough and splutter. I am not supposed to imbibe too much alcohol but the cheapest possible rum, which we buy for cooking really since nobody actually likes the muck, taken generously as a gargle that is them swallowed turns it round often. Not always. It usually does not work when our two are screaming at each other and the only effective weapon is a loud shout but only a raspy croak comes out :-(

Can't talk to 'em? How's about flash cards ? This could be a whole new thread . What would you write on flash cards for recalcitrant kids ?

Really, when?

Seriously - I do feel for you. It's only happened to me a couple of times but not being able to yell at the kids was dire! xx

100% agree Jane. (and ideally only unleashed / let out when they reach 21)

All children should be on reins and in play pens.

I'm doing my best Jane. Today Izzy decided to run off down the hill and I would normally shout...STOP. Of course I couldn't so she ran all the way to the house. I was so cross. On the way back to school I put her back on reins. I can't see any other way than driving to school with them to keep or literally holding each of their hands forcefully onto each side of the pushchair. They're difficult to handle at the moment as they know I can't say anything to them. It's driving me NUTS!

ooh Vic you are cheeky!

I had this happen to me when I had young children, so I know how frustrating it can be.

As far as possible you should try to rest your voice, I know, but I didn't and I ended up by having to stay silent for a fortnight and going to a speech therapist.

I still have problems with my voice, it disappears very easily, so please take care and rest it as much as possible.

The lack of response seems to indicate people prefer you in silent mode ;-)
