Hello!  OK, totally self-centred discussion topic as I'm off to paris on Thursday for a few days and would love to hear any restaurant recommendations!  I'm a bit of a foodie, and hate to end up in a bad restaurant in such a place as paris!

So, I'm will to start (its all about give and take here) by recommending a couple of my favourite places (both in the 10eme).  BEST bakery in Paris (officially in 2008) is the boulangerie "Pain et les idées" and a great little natural wine bar/restaurant/cave "Le verre volé".  For the second one, its mostly about the wine for me!  I've only had the small plates of cheese or charcuterie (excellent!)

Thanks so much Jane! I'll note that down and try to get there to check it out!
Hey, who was having a discussion somewhere on SFN recently about a 'Bliss' marrying a 'Dearlove'...? Any connection?!

I discovered a nice place a while back, called Le Pain Quotidien in the Rue des Petits Carreaux up in the 2nd - the atmosphere is nice and you can just sit and chat for ages, well, you can do that anywhere I guess, but I like it and it's in a great street.
yes I'm a Bliss and damian idearlove is my nephew and is the chef at the square restaurant
Living near Square d'Anvers at the foot of the Sacre Coeur, one of my regular haunts is La Pizzetta. Very good pizzas and hardly a tourist in sight! Not the cheapest though. I can also recommend Corso, again at the proximity of the Square d'Anvers which has a lovely terrace to eat good Italian food in the evening sun.
Hi Rebecca, these are great ideas here. It's funny, because I was in Les Funambules the other day with a photo client and couldn't resist taking some pics - none of them were much good, which is why I haven't published any, but now you mention it..., hang on... does this ring a bell? This is going down to the toilets, sorry, the rest room ;-)

By the way, this is a plug, but why don't you join our sister Meet Up group and you can show us some of these places in person! I've got this idea for a series of meetings where we meet at a certain point and it's one of the members who has chosen their absolutely favourite Paris café or tearoom, and we only discover which one it is as we walk in the door!
Hi Rebecca. I've also been to the Relais Gascon in Montmartre and you are right to say the salads are great. Do you know though that there are actually 2 Relais Gascon in Montmartre. There is one near to Metro Abbesses and the other is close to Rue Lepic. For the atmosphere I prefer the one near the metro but both produce good food.

I like the sound of your other suggestions so will try and check them out (sooner rather than later).
I thought for one crazy second that I'd been in the Relais Gascon in the last couple of weeks too, but I checked and it was one in between them called La Villa des Abbesses at number 61 and I had a salad which was quite nice but not 'great' or huge, so I'll be trying out your Relais soon! Hey, why don't we organise a Paris If You Please Meet Up and go there with a group? Let me know what you think...
Sounds good to me Sab. Always up for going to restos in Paris
I've just had a couple of days in Paris, and fancied Japanese! Well why not make the most of opportunities I don't normally have - I can eat steak and chips any time! So I found a nice little Japanese restaurant just up the road from my hotel in the 10th Agrandisement. 17€ boought me a wonderful meal, including a pichet of wine. As I had never eaten Japanese before, the waitress recommended the Benito which was a sample of several different items. The flavours were out of this world! I will certainly be trying this again. I am told there a couple of Japanese restaurants in Angouleme, an hour fron where we live so may be I'll get a chance to have another sample.

I spent the last 5 days in paris and found a real gem for people (like me) living in France and in total withdrawl for any type of quality asian food!  Hokkaido in the 2eme...  Noodles!  In soup, or fried, fresh and japanese!  11 euros for a plate of handmade gyoza and either a big bowl of delisious noodle soup or yakisoba!
