Does anybody have any experience in using the website 'Oopad' ? I have seen it advertised on this site, but don't really get how it works! The prices it is showing look impressive, but is it 'too good to be true'?
Comment by Martin Parker on November 2, 2011 at 8:32 My intention was really just to improve the insulation stopping the heat from the fire going up the very large chimney! We have a slab of the solid insulation, 50mm thick, which I think is equivalent to 100mm of rockwool, but I was going to put a 200mm layer on top. Just chickened out!!
Stuart - as with Jeanette, I have no idea if it would be insurable or not. You would need to consult with the insurance company and a stove fitter.
Comment by Stuart Wilson on November 1, 2011 at 21:52 Are you guys sure that this is all OK with the insurance?
Comment by Martin Parker on November 1, 2011 at 20:26 That's brilliant Jeanette. I had thought about doing the same with the flue pipe on my stove but didn't because I was unsure what might happen to the insulation. Trying to explain away the makeshift insulation to the insurance company after a chimney fire just did not appeal!!
Looks like my fears were unfounded though - right, where's the rockwool. ;-)
This is so cool - looking forwards to this future.....
