I would love to get up on the slopes with all this fresh snow, but just too busy at the moment. Will be out and about on the bike this summer though, definitely.

Hey, picked up the thread! Cool, I actually brought down a lovely Suzuki VS 800, it was our only mode of transport for a time. I ran it but, could never 'import it' proper due to unfathomable admin problems, it's out side, and has only done 8000 miles, such a waste. I do have a BMW 1100 in the Garage, also not been out this season, it needs a battery! I have just joined the M/c group, that might be quite interesting. I've pretty well always had bikes and scooters, some actually accruing in value. I know your Suzy, what's the 'R' a Yamaha? both sound pretty pokey.  Ron

Martin.... is this the view thread? probably not. confused.com. Must chat about Bikes sometime. Once I've learned how to 'chat' Ron

Hi Martin, bit confused as to where I have to respond... The logo works really well, in my opinion, obviously profesh!  Yes very lucky in the Languedoc, the sea, the history, and go North for an hour and its snow country. No wonder the French never go abroad.   Ron

Hi Martin

No there isn't a lot on the site - typically French, some of our members don't even have an email address!

The club was formed in 1977 in Firmi just outside Decazeville in the Aveyron. It is a racing club, road racing but over the years has included other disciplines and last year saw a few changes - we now have a VTT (mountain bike) section, a leisure section etc. We organise a road race, mountain bike race and a rando - pleasure ride at a descent speed - 90 km at 30km/h average speed! but with a slower shorter circuit for leasure riders.

Training/club rides: the main ride is Saturday afternoon: 13h30 meeting place is in front of Sport2000 in Decazeville (between Mr Bricolage and Géant) and we get up to 60 riders in 3 groups: group 1 full on race training, Group 2 race training but we regroup and wait when needed and Group 3 leasure group who ride a shorter circuit. Rides vary from 60 to 100+ km for groups 1 and 2. 40 to 60 for group 3.

There are rides on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, 14h00 from Livinhac-le-haut: 50-60km often flat out group 1+2.

And Wednesday (that I organise) at 17h30 from Decazeville, again 50 to 70km flat out unless group 3 riders show up then things calm down a bit. this ride only takes place through the late spring, summer and early autumn - daylight permitting!

We also organise an early season training week in Spain, a weekend with wives/girlfriends somewhere not too far away, evenings out together etc. In short it's a very friendly social club where conviviality is the keyword.

I joke that we have an "section internationale" run by me for me as I'm the only foreigner in the club... having said that it does mean that there's an English speaking contact and rider if anyone wants to come along who doesn't speak French.

I think it's clear already but I'll spell it out anyway... you need to be a reasonable cyclist to come along and ride, as with any club. Rides here often take in over 1000m of climbing too!

exactly like the irish 'fek'. the club's site is :

http://cyclo.club.firmi.pagesperso-orange.fr/

but the only thing that gets updated regularly are the training runs, worth a go though.

Many thanks Martin, I say 'my club' meaning the one I ride for/with... not mine really ;-) but if anyone's in this part of the Aveyron it's an excellent club Cyclo Club Firmi-Aubin-Cransac or Cyclo Club FAC as we call it which always makes me smile as I'm sure you can imagine a whole group of french cyclists talking about "fac"... makes the only anglophone in the club smile for hours!
Cheers
Andrew
