During a conversation a few months back, social networking and in particular Facebook came up.A rather bombastic colleague of mine, roughly my age, announced by way of argument that "Facebook is for…Continue

Who else recognises this phenomenon and can relate to this? Most people on here have, at the very minimum, enough French to be able to order a baguette, buy a newspaper and generally get by.
Apparently not so, even the more adept with the language will probably be able to identify with this.
You push open the door of the bakery (boulangerie – for those in the know) and you make your first fatal error. You say “Bonjour”, because that’s what one does. Instantly the…

What a lucky escape France has had. I have been reading with interest the continuing twists in the Dominique Strauss-Kahn story.
A few months ago, this guy was the Socialist front runner to lead the party in an electoral campaign for the French Presidency. In his recent debates with Nicolas Sarkozy it was clear that he could run rings round him and I think we can honestly assume, hand on heart, he would have become the next President of France. He was seen from inside the party as the…

Apparently when the lawyer asked the question in the meeting this morning: "So who is this contract going to protect".
The correct answer was not "You guys probably".
The boss is not pleased!
Johnny Summerton said… Sure thing. I'll give you the heads up when I'm next there. Usually make the drive once a month and stick around for a week. Depends on work really. Have a great weekend.
Johnny Summerton said… Merci Nick. I see we're both Paris-Province travelllers.
Dave Seward said… Hi Nick yes we're in Confolens
Lol - I'll keep an eye open for him. Seen someone similar at a stall at the tiny Thursday market. I might just run along the road saying 'Dominic, Dominic' and see who turns around.
Yep, keep me posted what you're up to. I didn't realise Confolens was so close - Rochechouart's probably less than 20 mins.
Talk soon.
I'm surprised actually - this area is positively teeming with Brits! I thought we were moving into a typical little French hamlet but I think there are at least 5 sets of English bods, 3 with holiday homes and the others permanent. So much for French rural life. Shaun is loving it though - it's the first time he's ever had a garden and he's out there squealing (literally squealing - I keep telling him he sounds like a girl) and racing round with the dogs. I'm trying to build up my client base which Orange scuppered for the first 2 months - as long as I can keep ticking over, we'll have food and petrol. That's all a mum and kid need really (oh, apart from chocolate and the odd glass of rose).
I am happy and privileged to accept your friend invite - after a post like 'Oops' how could I resist!
Hi Nick
That is really kind of you. At the mo it seems to be sorted - the lady who has offered has a second home near here but she is prone to changing her mind at the last minute as I know from past experience!
Hi Nick
Thank you for getting in touch. At the moment I think we have it sorted but there is a possibility that things might go wrong!
