SFN 2012 Challenge?

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 23:30 29 Comments

Just as I am about to reluctantly return to the UK for a while, I thought, [as an incurable optimist], I would share a few of my weirder thoughts with my recently acquired SFN "family".

I have always been a sports freak [no obvious comments please.....too easy a target!!], and living in The Aude [albeit not full-time YET!], and so close to the unbelievably beautiful Canal du Midi, I am keen to put myself through at least one of the following four challenges, preferably NOT alone, but… Continue

Retirement: France or United Kingdom.....discuss!!

Being of a certain age, and with full retirement on the horizon for me and many others the $64,000 question [how outdated is that figure these days?] is, taking into consideration:-

Health: The inevitable increasing health issues in direct proportion to age reached

Family Ties and all their implications…

Tenant Not Paying Rent: What Next?

Posted on May 29, 2011 at 6:48 14 Comments

We live in the Aude, near Carcassonne, but we also have a 3-bedroomed stone farmhouse in the Vienne which we had tried to sell in 2007, just as the property market was starting to fall. The prices fell so rapidly at the time, we decided that to rent out the property was our best option. No problem in the early stages.

The first tenant signed a contract, & all was relatively okay for a year or so. Then the young single parent with 3 small children had to leave the house at very… Continue

Purchase Of A New Mattress

DOUBLE MATTRESS

We live in the Aude, near Trebes / Carcassonne, and require a new double mattress for a bed in a guest room.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where we could purchase a "Best Buy" seldom used double mattress, without breaking the bank?

Thank you.

Phil Espley.

Pleasure Phil, really glad to be of help. Sorry for the late response, I'm not yet fully using/being of use on SFN... mostly on Facebook with my page "Ask Steffi", if your interested. But will definitely get into it this summer for some more useful info. Enjoy the long weekend, Steffi

Hi Phill,
The Jazz night takes place in Laurens in the Langudeoc. It starts at 8:30, is 10euros which gives you drinks and nibbles and fabulous live music. The exact details are posted on the events page. Call/email Wendy to secure reservations. It's a fabulous evening which happens once a month. Hope to see you there! Cheers!

Yes, I am Rhodesian - which means officially I don't really exist. Am going to to take up French nationality (have you seen the paperwork?!) so I can get back into Zim without a visa. Need a visa on a UK passport and 50 US$ under the counter!

So does your wife know where to get biltong here, that is the question?
