CPAM English speaking

I guess most of you already know CPAM has an English speaking line but incase there is anyone who hasn't got the new number 0811 36 36 46  I have just called it and at first there is a french message but ignore it and it goes to English and almost immediately I was answered by a lady who spoke perfect English, so refreshing to be able to sort things out in your own languageSee More

Hi Roz,we are about 30 mins from you, between Martigne Ferchaud and Thourie, have been here for 5 years but still doing stuff to the house, seems never ending,I suppose late nights and late mornings don´t help!! We are retired,me very early and my husband quite early, had this as a holiday home and decided to take the bull by the horns and move over, love the quiet life, well except for the occasional barking dog.

Hi Roz
Thanks for your comment. Yes, the trip over was rough! We crossed over night and glad we booked a posh cabin. I was more worried about the cat left in his cage in the car, as they were lashing down the trucks on the vehicle decks. However, he was fine and we all coped with the 400 mile run down to Charente, towing motor boat as well. We're all settling into our new home and huge garden. Our stuff arrived 2 days later. So many boxes...where did it all come from? Oh... but the blue skies, nothing but blue skies, since we arrived...bliss...and oodles of time to sort everything out. :) Cheers, Lesley

I speak a bit of French though not enough as I would like. If I am out I seem to go into francais mode automatically in shops & bars and don't think 'Oh I've got to speak French' I just do it even if it might sometimes be incomprehensible. I listen to French radio in the car a lot and read a lot of French news online although we don't have French TV. I don't think there is any point in making it a chore to learn French, just picking up bits here and there and gradually getting immersed is, I think, the best way and probably a bit like an infant learning to talk!

Hi Roz:We live near St Denis D'Orques in 72 though almost as close to Sainte Suzanne in 53. Funnily enough when we were looking for property to buy in 2006-07 we looked at one not far from St Aignan sur Roe at La Rouaudiere. All the best, Ricky
