HiDoes anyone know who to call when there is a troublesome bee's nest? Mine's right next to the kithcen door and although I don't really want to kill an increasingly endangered species, I can't let…Continue

Emily Montès said… Hi Teena
Thanks for your advice and help. People join SFR for all kinds of reasons, don't they?! It's true that I have been very unhappy here, due to the french system's inflexibility and hence the loss of my entire livelihood (I simply worked, as a buyer, brought up my daughter alone - nothing spectacular, but it worked). Here, "dit-donc", I'm an Anglaise, and that's all they can see. As for my qualifications, if it wasn't done in France, it never happened...
I'm no longer in that unhappy place, I joined for the exchange of information and ideas, and mostly that works very well. If I have to roll my eyes occasionally at some comments, it's a price worth paying!
You know, it's a shame, but I don't actually like teaching much - but I have grown to enjoy those moments when I can inspire and enthuse people, and I want to build on those. However, I have to give the decision-making customer (usually, but not always, a parent), what they want, or they just pull their children out! Much good advice on that has been posted on my topic.
On the topic I dare not write about this year's "pupils" for fear of being misunderstood and opening another can of worms on a topic that's not, really, that interesting: they're 3 brothers, aged 4, 8 and 10 who come ALL TOGETHER. At first it was OK as my 11 year old daughter helped, but now she has athletics on Wednesday afternoons. So my Wed pms are a nightmare. Jemima (daughter) and others say I'm mad and I should take the parents up on their offer to ask Mamie to bring the kids one by one if it doesn't work too well - but I know full well that the reason they stay is that Mamie only now has to have the 3 from midday til 3.30 when they come to me. If I went back on that I think these boys might evaporate as well.... miraculously enough, we do manage to do grammar (from BLED CM2/6ième - and I have records, with scores, of exercises they do, on file). I don't enjoy their running around my house though - and I have 2 children under 2, who are remarkably well-behaved because I give them no choice!!!
Anyway, I wrote too much, sorry, I must now go on the topic to thank those who have advised me. Then I might unsubscribe from it, because it's starting to clog my in-box!
Regards
Emily

Hi Teena,
Thanks for your comments about the puss-cats.
Do you have any of your own? Are you able to post some piccies on Cat Chat?
Best wishes
Lynn

Dear Teena
Welcome to the network - we hope you find it useful!
If you haven't already done so, don't forget to upload a photograph of yourself so NOT your cat or your company logo (!), to your profile (use the setting button on the right hand side of your page) and once you've completed your profile information, you will be able to see your location on the 'Members Map'. This feature is a great way to find other people in your area so do make sure you add your location - that way other people will be able to find you too! And do add as much information to your profile as possible. Again, that way SFN members searching for people with similar interests, hobbies and occupations will be able to connect with each other.
Feel free to join any groups that look interesting or suggest your own. The groups can all be found in the social tab at the top of the page. If you're a blogger you can also add your blog posts to SFN - we love reading them!
You can list items for sale in the Bring Buy and Sell group and add any events to the Events page. And come and say 'Hi' in the chat window - we're all very friendly!
Best wishes
Catharine and James
