Welcome to the SMOKE ROOM.  In December,  we had a discussion about cutting down to stop which prompted one thousand one hundred and fifty views and several people to stop. Smoking is an emotive subject that has touched the lives of most of us so any smoking related topic is open for discussion. Please feel free to add your story or comments and try to keep away from scare stories (smokers have heard it…See More

Helen, Welcome, what department are you in?? Gettign bees from closer will mean less stress on them, postage is a bit rough on them. There are beekeeping supply shops for tools, hive boxes, and clothing, but for the actual bees, better to go to a…

@ Valerie, good idea to remind the guy that you're not a tourist, a local girl had the arse fall out of a second hand car with rust, and she took it back to the dealership, and got no help at all. @ Steve, I'm looking for .... oh, I…

News from the apiary.. out of the 13 hives we use for royal jelly production, we lost one. phew. The honey hives, out of 36, we lost 3. Delighted. Most people are saying they're sorry for our loss, but we'd though we'd be doing well…

It's just my personal experience, but i find the opposite, people here are very quick to look down on you, and decide to try to get one over on you, but when they are threatened with something "official", or "legal", they do…

For buying cars, and odds and ends, I use www.leboncoin.com   I'm currently looking for a car, because one of ours went on fire about a month ago; so I feel your pain.  To be honest, though, driving something big helps around the…

Glad you booked something, takes a lot of weight off, even though it's just a case of making a phone call,or booking something online. We have a hard time with flights too, because my nearest Airport is Geneva, and most of the flights home are…

is there no flights to Lyon at all? I reckon car rental from Lyon would be a lot cheaper than Paris.

I'd say get train too, otherwise, super U do rentals where you could rent the vanette or similar in Lyon, and drop it off near Limoges. Super U are cheap, in my experience, we rented a 12 tonne truck, and a few pick-ups from them, and…

Threaten legal action. normally the very thought of having to go head to head with someone in court makes most rogue operations draw in their horns. Either call, or write to tell them you WILL bring legal action, or get your OH to call saying he is…

My poor car, on the news.

Posted on January 24, 2012 at 3:00pm 30 Comments

My car was burned to a crisp last week....

http://alpes.france3.fr/info/la-clusaz--incendie-maitrise---72095753.html

that's what's left of it. Pretty disheartening, only had it since this summer, and I loved it.

Was going to work, drove up, and into the garage, luckily there was nobody else parked there... as I left the parking, I looked back, and saw a small light at the front of…

Hi Zoe,

You sent me a message which I can't find - I'm not good on these sites! Thank you for the invite to tap your knowledge on the Fier, I may take you up on that as I would like to see more of France and now we have only  one dog we should travel some more. At the moment I have trips planned to the Forss in the North of Scotland and maybe the Beauly, near Inverness. The North Esk is a great river and possibly the most improved in Scotland. I used to fish it every year but became "persona non grata" with the syndicate I fished with. That's the problem sometimes, you teach someone to fish and they suddenly know more than you! I may find a slot sometime in the year to fish it with friends.

Quite miserable and wet here but still unseasonably warm, I hope you're keeping warm and dry.

Best Regards,

Brian

Hi Zoe - I still trying to work this site out. I have sent a friend request so I can send you a message.I did bring a whole load of personal vitriol onto myself. I have strong opinions, but try not to make it personal.

Glad to find that not every one is a right wing bigot here!

Please keep in touch S x

Hi Zoe

thank you for your reply.

I got a bit worked up ~ the Clarkson comments were dreadful and saw most of the replies that I hated came from the "smug couple" type Daily Mail reader. and to be honest I find it is the attitude of expats. I have lived in the ME and Africa (before I my husband died) and always made an effort to mix with people of all nationalities - made me understand the problems of the people thrown out of their land in Palestine and living stateless - oooh better not mention that on the site!

I don't usually bother here on this site. Not  sure if it is the best place to make friends ?

best wishes Sara
