Posted on May 2, 2011 at 10:23 1 Comment

Mike and I have just spent a glorious week in France househunting......The first two nights we spent with SFN member Sarah Beattie at her lovely B&B in Ste Dode.

Wow!...what a cook!...what fantastic veggie food!...and most of all what a welcome!......Lovely person, with no doubt lovely husband who was away...and cracking dog Mavis...who we would have happily made room for in the holdall!!

We were so taken that we would like to tell other members what a great person she is… Continue

Bonjour,
Glad you made it!!

We're not that far from Mirande, we actually looked in that area before we bought this place.

If you are ever over this way , we have 4 hectares of land , most of it accessible!! So if the dogs need another place to gallop , I would love to meet them, Oh, and you 2 of course! We're talking to James and Catherine tomorrow about a couple of ideas that we all have for SFN get togethers, so watch this space.

We're away from 15-29October for my son's wedding and various other family events, but are usually around most of the time.

Good luck getting the phone etc. sorted.

always a challenge that one!!

love

Hi Sandy,
Thank you - we are looking to settle in Limousin or Poitou Charente when we eventually buy.
From what I am reading, I'm discovering it really is a great network.
Whilst I don't want to be 'that awful new English woman who's just arrived', it would be great to find some ready-made friends when we get there ... and all this rather sooner than we had anticipated - but then again, buyers who are already in rented accomodation don't come along everyday, so we took a drop on our price, and are rather shaken by the speed things are happening. Homeless? Us? Maybe, if we don't sort something out very soon.

there again if you're after snow for the dogs... forget what I said about seeing it in winter - if you like it in winter you'll love it in summer!

Hi Sandy, she lived in Dawlish but is now back in Buckinghamshire. as for me, I read french and italian at exeter and went on from there. been in france for 6 years or so, other half is french and have two kids born here. I love it and wouldn't go back to the UK even though I love the west country: went through brnc dartmouth too. I'm sure you won't regret the move. only advice I can give is firstly to learn as much french as possible before moving out here, secondly to see the area you like in the winter if possible, or rent if you're not sure and see if you like the area.

Bonne chance !
