"Tour de Finance" Pau 22 March 2013

The 2013 Tour de Finance - (it’s like the cycling one in that it goes around France, but there are no bikes involved!) - continues it's tour in Pau. If you live within striking distance, why not come along?

The event is open to all and entirely free of charge. The organisers are kindly providing lunch.

The day will kick off with a welcome coffee at 9.30. The morning is devoted to short seminars. These cover a wide range of subjects such as healthcare and financial advice including tax, pensions and currency transfers, plus topics such as house letting and holiday rentals. There will also be plenty of opportunity to ask the speakers specific questions and mingle with other guests over the free buffet lunch. This is a great opportunity. Not only will you get free expert advice on a wide range of subjects, all of which can prove ‘problematic’ shall we say, for expats in France, but you’ll also get to meet up with other people from the local area. There’s even a chance to win a £150 voucher courtesy of The British Corner Shop. Mmm, sausages...

The event will end around 2.30, leaving you time to explore the historic city of Pau. Pau is the capital of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and is said to have more green space per inhabitant than any other European city. It is certainly scenic with the large Château de Pau dominating the centre. The château is famous for being the birthplace of the 16th century king of France Henry IV and has a small garden that was allegedly tended by Marie-Antoinette when she spent her summers in the city. I can’t imagine that she actually did much digging...

The château is classified as a French historical monument and is well worth a visit. Pau is a big water sports centre with the river, the "Gave de Pau" running through the town and the views of the mountains from the famous Boulevard des Pyrénées are stunning. If you are arriving by train, you can take a cute little funicular up to the Boulevard and town centre from the railway station.

Pau is full of great shops and restaurants too. It is one of my favourite places to wander around and I always discover something new. There’s even a great Chinese supermarket so you can stock up on all the store cupboard essentials and grab yourself a take away for dinner!

I really do recommend coming along. Places are limited but SFN readers can pre-book by simply following the links below. If Pau is too far away, fear not, the Tour de Finance continues throughout March and April and the venues are all listed below. Simply click on the venue of your choice to book.

Hi James
Hope to see you there … No mention of venue.
Where is the Chinese supermarket? I know Pau and Lescar fairly well but not found a supermarket, only the buffet restaurant.
Regards
Elaine
