Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier demands all talks are conducted in French

Michel Barnier apparently wants to keep the complex negotiations in his native tongue, do they not have translators for this?! Maybe it’s just a play designed to infuriate the Brits?!

I read this on another forum, it seems to explain the position.

'As in any international negotiations; delegates may speak in their own language; through official interpreters:
Even if you speak another language well; it is usually better ( in official negotiations), to speak in your own mother tongue; and listen to the professional interpreter, who is less likely to make the mistakes you will.
So this guy has simply chosen to speak in his own language.

Typical sort of overblown reaction . "Why can’t Johnny Foreigner speak a proper language?"
And forgetting that French, actually, until recently , was the international diplomatic language.’
