Oh What A Surprise!

So maybe that you ought to tell Companies House where you do live. Just an idea.

So does this mean that you are “working the system” like all the other tax dodgers? If everyone - especially the big earners - paid honest taxes on their earnings, the world would be better place and lots of greedy people would have cleaner consciences

Why ? They know where I live, there just years behind.

If I lived in Ghent I wouldn’t tell anyone either.

Oh Ghent is pretty enough; dull as anything though - I used to live in Antwerp, however, so I may not be objective .

A bit of Ghent centre is OK but the surrounding area? No. I only ever spent a weekend in Antwerp (although I know the Kennedy tunnel traffic jams very well) for a theatre event and loved it.

Oh god yes the surrounding area, duller than the dullest thing you can imagine, living death. Mind you that goes for a lot of non-urban Belgium unfortunately. And not just Belgium now I come to think of it.

Well put Geof
I am happy for the Scots to remain in the EU, if that is what they want and happy for them to not be part of the Uk also

‘Lack of dynamism ?’
There is a heck of a lot of planning and discussion going on and as this hasn’t been done before, there isn’t any blueprint or ‘cheats guide’ to follow

This is bound to take time and cannot be rushed
The will is there to leave on the best terms possible and I believe that Teresa May and her team will do everything they can to achieve that.
She is able, comes from the right kind of background to appreciate and care about, the hardships encountered by the poorest people in the Uk and I also don’t accept that she (or Trump, for that matter) are out of their depth. They are both on a ‘steep learning curve’
that doesn’t mean they are incapable of doing a good job

There will be some degree of instability as changes take place, of course that is inevitable but I think (despite the doom-mongers), that things will improve much faster than David M supposes.

Rude response alert, I think

Surely we can express our differing views without this kind of tone
If we didn’t hold differing opinions, there would be no discussion
We are all in the same boat in this regard
we can only surmise based on what we have read, seen on TV re Brexit, (and absorbed through other sources) to try to determine, how things might turn out, our own life experience and beliefs come into it, obviously, but I can only reject, the degree of negativity from people who wanted to remain (despite the terrible prognosis for the EU in the next 10 years, whether the UK stayed in or not)
Like Geof, I feel a sense of great relief that we are coming out of this protectionist, vanity project
That is my considered opinion and I’m entitled to express it.
Simon what you feel, is just your opinion
you do not know definitively whether you are right about any of this

Rude reply David
He is contributing to this forum and he shouldn’t be subjected to personal comments

Or perhaps this is just your usual ‘bully boy’ technique to suppress free speech
?

Hilary what you feel, is just your opinion
you do not know definitively whether you are right about any of this

Anyway, morning Hilary luvvie! It’s always (*) to hear from you. As your mate Geof would say - there’s no such thing as a bad idea so we may as well flip them all up and see if they stick to the wall.

Just for the record Hilary - I disagree with just about everything you say. I guess you’re busy packing up ready for your move back to the nirvana that will be the UK?
Bon voyage !!

(*) couldn’t think of a word

Don’t confuse robustness with bully boy suppression of free speech. You seem to have very rose tinted glasses on these days Hilary. From what I see the Maybot is clearly out of her depth. She has never been a success in government and her spell at the Home Office was singularly undistinguished. Regarding Trump American friends and relatives find him embarrassing and dangerous.Frankly Hilary I think you are deluding yourself but you’ll only realise that when you’re back, unwillingly, in the former UK.

Only time will tell how long it takes for the UK to recover to the point that it was at on June 22nd 2016. I hope for its sake that the recovery is as quick as possible but I just cannot see how that is going to happen. Perhaps you can give the answers that no other Leave supporter has ever given. Let’s start with the easy one;
Where is the acquisition of wealth going to come from when Britain, a country that has a huge trade deficit and little manufacturing, finds itself trading on worse terms with its biggest and closest markets and is making worldwide deals to pick up crumbs from other economies who are tied into their own trading blocks?
Economic recovery is not just a state of mind or Bulldog Spirit, it’s to do with trade and economics.

I wouldn’t call working the system filling out your tax return. I take a dividend every year which is taxed at 25% across the board, which is maximum tax on dividends. Which is far better that the rate in France. Which is around 50%. Also in Belgium there is no capital gains tax.

As for living in Ghent I thought that I would tell David that Belgium has some of the the finest cities in Europe and very nice people, Super food with more variety than France. Beer is excellent with so many types. The chocolate on par with Switzerland. There’s many reasons to live here. Also can travel to France, UK, and Germany in just a few hours.
If you look at the listing of best places to live in the world you will see Belgium is always near the top.

I don’t know why Survive France always picks up so many arrogant men that always know everything but know nothing. I very rarely come on this blog because you always get the same lefties coming on. You lads should read what the ladies are writing as they have more sense and polite.

I’m glad that you enjoy Belgium. I lived very close to the German/Belgian border for over half my life and enjoyed many days out in the country but it is not somewhere that I would consider living. I know too many more interesting places. Strangely my small French hometown has a bar that specialises in Belgian beers if I ever feel the need. In my opinion Belgian chocolate is far better than anything from Switzerland.

Be honest Geoff, it was the chips and mayo wot swung it, wasn’t it. That’s Belgium’s No. 2 speciality. No.1 of course is the beer.

They even have a musĂ©e des frites, how much more cultural can you get. And I’m not knocking it. I think it’s great. I actually love the Belgians, they’re as mad as hatters.

Nothing like a little light provok. to get things going
did the same thing when working as consultant - took best option between dividends and income tax
keep smiling and enjoy the Belgian LAGER - the only real beer is in England of course

You’ve just shown how little you know and understand about Belgian beers. There’s a lot more to them than Stella Artois and Jupiler.
