Hello Morag, our box plugs in to the tv and into a modem- no dishes etc. It is a MAG250 which you will see on ebay, but these boxes are not loaded and it is not cheap to have loaded. Ours came with all the sky programmes plus films, series and two weeks catch-up. We bought ours for €160 in Cyprus… Visit Topic or reply to this email to respond. Magic box sounds interesting

Had a lot of interest in this - quite Rightly. It can be seen on ebay - Mar 250 - but beware these boxes are not loaded and getting them loaded can be very time consuming or expensive. When we got ours we plugged one end in to the tv and the other into the modem and away it went. We get all the sky channels, films, series , two week catch-up all for €240 annually. We bought ours in Cyprus from someone we have known for a few years and it went well there and goes well here apart from an occasional short-lived blip which happens on lots of tv’s. I believe the cost to buy the box loaded is €160 plus postage but is the best system we have found and we have had ours for about 5 years now.If you wish to pursue this further I will let you have his email.Best wishesSheila

We have a magic box that plugs in to the tv and internet box (no dishes, no laptop) gets all sky, and not expensive, pm me for details. Visit Topic or reply to this email to respond. To unsubscribe from these emails, click here.

In Manche, I get excellent signal strength and quality from a sky dish and box, bought for a few pounds secondhand.
We recently upgraded to HD which works well, but the HD box takes a long time to boot up so there is a temptation to leave it on standby. The built-in hard disk will only work if you pay a subscription, but there is plenty of free viewing available,
Does anybody know why so many dishes are mounted on chimneys here? So long as the dish is in line of sight of the satellite there is no problem. Is it just a way for installers to charge more?

If you buy an Android box

( for example - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bqeel-Android-Amlogic-AP6212-Decoding/dp/B06XWNFCRD/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_504_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4T728R5G53B1PPXDNGXD

you can install ‘Mobdro’ and watch live TV including all sports and film channels for free. Install ‘Kodi’ with an App called ‘Exodus’ and watch recently released films for free and TV box sets from time immemorial, also for free

Hi we have had our box for three years now with no trouble (touch wood) and don’t have to switch around and for €20 per month don’t think it is expensive. They are always updating so we won’t be changing now. Thanks anywaySheila

If you have a Freesat box and are wondering where Channel 4hd has gone, apparently Freesat as the carrier upped their fees, so C4 pulled it a couple of days ago. SD and +1 channels are still available though.

Hi not sure if you can help me at all. Are satellite dishes all the same apart from size? We have just purchased a free sat box but now need to buy a satelitte dish for our house in Burgundy? Most likely will buy in the UK and bring with s. Would really appreciate your advise. Thank you

Essentially, yes. In central France you should actually be within the 60cm footprint for the UK spot beam so probably won’t need anything special.

Thank you have a lovely afternoon

I live near Aix en Provence, so further south than Burgandy, but I would certainly buy a 90cms dish. I have a 130cms dish to receive all Freesat channels. Works well except in thunder storms, for all available channels. We do get the occasional gliches or even loose a channel from time to time, but 95% of the time its ok. When they changed the satellites around a couple of years ago my 60cm dish and my 90 cm dishbecame useless. For you would suggest that 60cms dish is too small. The extra cost for a 90cm or even 130 cms (if you have no problems with neighbours) is well worth it for comfort of viewing without blackouts.

I gave up on British TV via sat 5 years back get a good VPN

Hi

Could you send me some details about your magic box.
Thanks

Hi - I use the UK + Sports package (18€ / month) from these guys:

Premium IPTV

I don’t need a MAG box (Set Top Box / STB) because I use the STB app on my Smart TV. I also have full access via the web and my android devices - brilliant

(Note - there are many other IPTV suppliers and I’m not on commission!)

I am looking to install a Sky dish in postcode 33570.

I am looking to stick with Sky (just £13 per month so cheap)

Can someone please advise of the correct dish size.

Hi Mat,

Might be worth giving these people a call. They are based in the Tarn (I used to see their van regularly in Mazamet) but I believe they will travel far and wide. Never used them so can’t recommend.

We watch rugby European challenge and champions cup matches on Beinsports (subscription) via a dish pointed at Eutelsat on a French Samsung smart TV equipped with a Fransat decoder module CI+ that gives the French TNT bouquet. Six Nations rugby is always on France 2. Beinsports has lots of stuff - handball, football, rugby, basketball - not just French - see their website. Cycling is on France 3 and France 2. Commentary of course is in French. Good for picking up specialist sporting vocabulary. For documentaries I recommend Arte, channel 7, often BBC productions voiced over in French.

For Astra 2E probably 90cm but you’re a good bit south of the footprint so you might need some local knowledge - I don’t see why a decent anteniste shouldn’t help.

For 2F and 2G you’re in the middle of the footprint so shouldn’t need anything special.

As Simon says if you have good broadband IPTV might be an option and Mandy’s link looks interesting.
