Sometimes people need to hear that at the time - otherwise they feel unloved and go away.
I did PM him but somebody (he didn’t say who) had got his goat and decided to call it a day.
You should have let us know. Happy to express gratitude specifically if I might not have had particular reason to but nevertheless appreciated someone’s presence, if they’ve had a bad incident with someone.
I’ve recently PM’d another nice poster not seen for a while and he’d just wanted a change. He’s OK which is the main thing
I rarely do PMs Karen. I may be wrong, but I’d fear a clique or a backchannel thing happening through them. People ganging up or whatever. It could ruin things.
So, as all will attest, like it or loathe it, whatever I think is there for all to see. But if I notice someone has faded away, I do try and reach out. I think it behoves us all to do so, but sometimes it’s hard to spot it happening ![]()
I send and receive PMs, but it’s rarish (and always a pleasure).
But I completely agree with your point. I was once a member of another forum in which I was appointed mod, and then banned, all within the space of 48 hours. It was a weird and memorable experience, and one which makes me forever grateful to @cat and @billybutcher for the way this place is run. In my brief time as mod, I happened to see some PM exchanges which made it clear a clique was indeed operating, and very unpleasant it was too.
I agree, it’s a challenge that I wouldn’t have the stamina or dedication to preserve. We’re lucky.
We are. But we also have a very civilised membership by and large. ![]()
I wouldn’t participate otherwise Chris
Life’s too short.
I rarely read stuff on X orFacebook except if my close pals send me a link. But I do see there’s a whole world of incoherent bollox out there.
As a politician, if you can use AI (it’s not intelligence of course, it’s just data churning) to identify what the pivotal 10% great unwashed want to hear then you’re going win every time. Access to a good statistician is more important than good policies.
I maybe naive, but I don’t think we are there (yet?) in France.
