A couple of hours down memory lane

Although I had forgotten the trigger when I finished the above, it is amazing how things related but far apart can set old brains in motion.

I received an alert from the Dobermann Association (PAD) for a post on their forum. Because I only post there in threads concerning dogs I have transported, I know when I get one that I should know this dog. Increasingly, with age, I do not remember the dog in question or even often recognise the name.

Sadly, Jarro has died. But who was Jarro? From day one of transporting in 2010, I have kept a list of all the dogs (and indeed cats) with dates, places and expenses refunded, just in case the taxman came to call one day. But even then I don’t always remember the circumstances. So then I go to another list, sadly not 100% complete, where I described all the details of each dog with photos videos etc… No sign of Jarro there.

But also I kept an online blog, called Long Distance Dog Diary, which covers many but again, not all. Bingo, there he is in a long piece about a 3 and a half thousand km journey involving him and 2 other Dobies. I read through it all, including the pictures and the videos. Lovely, it all came back to me, but then I glanced at the list at the side, an index of all the journeys in the blog, and spotted another, long fogotten dog, and then another and another.

The last entry was from 2020 of a particularly lovely Dobermann female, Enola. I fostered her and would have adopted her but for an unfortunate circumstance. But then I saw mentioned dear old Jules who arrived shortly after she left and the thoughts I had at the time of what a good mix they would have made. She was a stick like glue sort of girl, something that was a problem because if I went out she suffered greatly with separation anxiety. Jules does not, but he after all this time, cannot be off lead because his nose follows scents wherever they lead but is fine on his own in the house. Would they have educated each other? We will never know.

As far as I know she is still alive and well but no report from her adopters was received for 2 years, and only than after repeated requests by the Presidente (all adopters are requested to join the forum and send regular reports of progress), and non in the further 2 years since. :slightly_frowning_face:

Anyway, all of that would not have taken up 2 hours this morning. I started to read Enola’s thread. It is very long. It is a copy of all 16 pages of a thread on a now defunct forum which I painstakingly made when I realised that the spiteful forum owner was about to delete it and ban me, simply because he had taken a dislike to me. I had barely finished it when the axe fell.

I wonder if there are many here who recognise the above, I know of at least 2. :joy:

I recognise the names Enola and Jules, and your avatar Boss. As for the forum, I couldn’t possibly say

Ha ha, Boss is a much more recent innovation and peculiar to this forum, Enola was very popular in that ‘other place’. :joy:
