A recently posted image of sewage and rainwater pouring into the sea in Biarritz has caused mass outcry in the local community and has forced the authorities to explain their waste disposal procedures.
A spokesperson claimed that the town's water treatment facility was under pressure due to exceptionally heavy rainfall and said that the lifeguards were supposed to ensure people got out of the water in the event of such incidents .On this occasion this clearly didn't happen; surfers can be seen in the background of the image so the lifeguards were obviously caught unawares.
I'm sure this issue occurs elsewhere and not just in the 64.
