A Place of Greater Safety by Hilary Mantel

Hi bookworms, I've just read Hilary Mantel's 'A Place of Greater Safety'. For lovers of history novels this is a brilliant book, every bit as good as 'Bring up the Bodies' and 'Wolf Hall'. It is written in the style of both these later books in that it is like reading an insider's account of the French revolution from the points of view of Danton, Desmoulins, Robespierre and their respective wives, lovers and partners.

In this book she touches on the character of Jean Paul Marat and I would love to read more about him, I so love the David painting of him, all that flesh and drapery!

I bought the novel about 5 days ago. I'm a fair way into it. Very good novel. Ms Mantel hasn't completely developed her writing style. It's a bit clunky in places. A very good way to learn about the revolution though. Just remember to separate fact from fiction. Read the introduction first.

Thanks for the tip. Will have a go.
