Had stuff from Amazon (and others) delivered to these lockers, both up here in Normandy and where we used to live in 23. I seem to remember they text you a code to put into the keypad and the locker pops open- easy peasy! Normally found in supermarket car parks.
Just passed by the village corner-shop relay point and see that it’s business as usual, so will take a chance, place the order and see what happens.
I see from Amazon’s website info that a purchase must be collected from a locker within 3 days, an Amazon app may be needed on your smartphone with Bluetooth, or connect with the locker via a barcode.
We shall see…!
I hope it won’t be a talking locker as I’m certain I won’t understand robo-voice telling me how to open it’s door…!
@bonzocat I’ve not experienced this on amazon.fr and it would surprise me. i just select from my already-there set of addresses in my account. One or two of them are old pickup or locker addresses I’ve used before. They are mixed countries and mostly my fixed street addresses.
On the 2 occasions I did choose locker though, Amazon US were so proud of themselves for delivering to the locker 2 days earlier than they’d said when I placed the order. As at that time their locker deliveries had to be collected within only 3 days if delivery, Due to them delivering at an evening time to the locker, that ended up leaving me only a 4 hour window in which I could collect due to my arrival time. After which the locker would be emptied and the order automatcally returned. In the UK again 2 times they delivrered 1 day early, again shortening my time to collect.
So due to this unpredictability and tight restrictions I wouldn’t choose a locker very often. Pickup (eg to corner shop) allows a bit longer to collect. And normally nowadays even La Poste (that amz.fr uses a lot) do send an email, usually late or very late the previous evening, with a link for you to reschedule, redirect to a Post Office etc, (mist do by midnight if you’re going to) , and may give you the chance to state a “safe place” on your property where they can leave it if you’re not there (if a courier send, also getting the safe place option is more likely).
The periods things are held by each delivery method do change from time to time - it will be in the Help Section under Delivery info.
But no, unless location is very convenient I would not select or accept lockers.
So do I, but I haven’t seen the blue exclamation mark, saying “Les colis seront livres dans les casiers du milieu” before – this is new, attached to the order I’m about to place.
I think maybe Amazon intend in the near future to extend their lockers to my agricultural part of France in Charente Maritime.
If you scroll down to the bottom of home page of amazon.fr (logged in) click Customer Service.
It will show you a list of your purchases to select from. Scroll down to Something Else and click it.
Do same again from options that will appear - scroll down to Something Else or I need more Help and click
Keep doing this.
After a few of these you get offered Select Chat or for them to call you back. Call.back is pretty much immediate.
Have ready a screenshot of the delivery options that are worrying you. As some - not all - agents will give you a link to upload it or an email they will be able to pick it up from immediately.
Ask for reassurance. Btw they probsbly won’t be able to answer if another vendor other than themselves is shipping. And sometimes not able, if shippedby amazon but soldby another vendor. Shown in the product description… I ger best results by sticking to soldby and shippedby amazon - even choosing fractionally more expensive from the Other Sellers section on the product page to do this.
Thank you.
I’ve placed the order and received a confirmation email. My corner-shop is shown as the relay collection point, so it’s business as usual.
I suspect that the lockers will be on their way here before long, possibly already here, somewhere. Who knows. Time will tell.
We often encounter people in our SuperU carpark trying to get their parcels out of a locker. And of course nothinh to do with SuperU so no help on site.
We only use companies that deliver to a point relay with a person in it, and don’t use Amazon an yway but his is yet another reason to avoid them.
I use the “safe place” option a lot with couriers as we are set well back from the road so a package left in our open porch is only visible if someone were to walk 100m up the driveway and round a corner.
While still in the UK, I bought a Rukka suit and the safe place chosen by the courier was right on the driveway, in full view of the road. I was quite miffed to say the least though, ultimately, it wouldn’t have been my concern if it took a walk.
Well that’s dumb, for sure.
With many couriers you can specify what the “safe place” should be - e.g. a porch, garden shed, etc. But there’s no guarantee they won’t be in a rush and leave it somewhere weird.
I used to have big problems with DPD, where their drivers would only go by the post code and house name or number.
Lots of times they would follow the satnav to the centre of our postcode, which is 100m up the road by a kid’s play area, look around for the house name, not see it, then drive off saying they “couldn’t find the address”. I realise house names rather than numbers are a hassle for delivery people, but we live in a posh village.
This was despite my having uploaded to the DPD app my mobile number, so they could phone me for directions, a photo of the entrance to our driveway, which is the very first one you come to on entering our road, and also (as specifically requested by DPD) the WhatThree Words reference which pinpoints our location to within a 3 metre square.
Nowadays thankfully where I am seems to be the “beat” of a specific DPD driver called Ty who has learned where I live!!!
All the above has left me mystified, I only buy if it comes direct from Amazon, never a seller, and I have never been asked to collect from anywhere else, even though I have seen lockers at the supermarket and the local epicerie does the service too. I used that once to send the old Livebox back to Orange.
If they were to insist and it didn’t suit me I would simply cancel.
Had you selected a delivery place? In the Amazon app you can put a place you want it dropped off, like a porch or behind the bin out of plain site.
Talking of Amazon, I noticed something sneaky recently. Briefly, I wanted to buy a small dehumidifier to use in the bedroom at night (the big unit I bought for downstairs is fine for use during the day but a tad too loud for when you’re trying to sleep). I found one for about €50 that had approx 6,000 reviews and an average score of 4.7.
When it arrived I wasn’t impressed with it at all. Unlike the big unit (which collects an astonishing amount of water in a day!) this thing hardly collected anything, despite the hygrometer showing very high levels. It was only then that I drilled into the reviews in more detail…
When I scrolled past the first page or so, I noticed the reviews were no longer talking about humidity but about taste and spiciness Eventually I realised the feedback was talking about some Tex-Mex spice mix that cost the buyers about $1. There were even some reviews with photos of said spices!
I don’t know how the seller managed this but it’s like they’ve flogged something cheap and cheerful to get a high rating then done a switcheroo for a high value item that’s a load of tat, perhaps hoping people are too lazy to return it.
I’ve since been refunded and complained to Amazon about the seller being dishonest (which frankly required more explanation to the helpdesk person than it should have!). I shall need to be more careful in future!
I don’t know if they can swap products, presumably they can.
Sometimes they list multiple items under the same listing (meant to be different sizes or styles of the same item, but not always), so that a review for one item appears to apply to all.
Very confusing.
Common Amazon “scam”, list some item, typically low price, get lots of feedback then switch to a completely different item in the same listing (apparently this is possible - presumably intended for minor product updates but being abused).
Going back to @John_Scully 's first post, (I’m catching up)…
We have avoided using Amazon for ever…even living in Den Haag, never used it and still prefer to cut the cloth to suit and buy whatever can be sourced locally or in the big city when there.
So…in summary, a unessary evil (for us at least). Realize that it makes no difference to Bozo Bezos’ bottom line (since most of the lolly is make from his servers) but at least I tried a wee bit.
It wasn’t Amazon and the option wasn’t offered.
Was it despatched by Amazon, or by the seller? It makes a big difference when trying to send it back and get a refund. After I was mightly burned I have never bought anything since that wasn’t despatched by them.
Only yesterday when trying to order Seresto anti tick and flea collars for the dogs, I refused to do so and bought another brand that did come from Amazon.
Amazon fortunately. They sent me an email saying they had refunded me shortly after I’d handed over the parcel at La Poste.
I have on a couple of occasions been easily refunded for Amazon orders that arrived broken and one or two that were wrong sizes. Oddly, I have also been told in most cases just to keep the item while the full price was still refunded.
To say I’m a ‘good’ customer may be an understatement. I’m certainly a frequent one and Amazon seem keen to keep my custom.
