An eye opener

You argue for arguments sake. There is no place for that on a forum like this.
“Feeling a bit insecure?” How is that anything other than a personal attack?

I asked if you were feeling insecure in response to your opening thread. Is that a personal attack ?

BTW, where have I argued on this thread ?

Sadly, our world is not the place it was or would like it to be. I suspect that Theresa May may be reflecting on this point. Personally, I still think that most people still fit Maslow’s heirarchy “https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow’s_hierarchy_of_needs” and strive to provide the best for their families. But: marketing pressures, the atrocities of terrorists, perceived peer pressures modify our concept of needs. I have absolutely no sympathy with bullying of any kind. But, does our apathy leave us open to bullying? When I voted on Thursday I “verbally accosted” the party counters outside the polling station. The Labour and Conservative posters proclaimed “VOTE ???”. The point I made to them was I voted for a candidate. The candidate that I thought would provide the best service to the constituents. I also made the point that if MEPs were more accountable were more transparent the Brexit outcome may have been different. Primarily, because the MEPs could have curbed some of the faceless bureaucracy that seemingly without accountable control, spends vast sums but seems to have achieved very little to harmonize standards (England, France, Spain have different electricity plugs, England and France have different plumbing fittings - although France still uses imperial units in some fittings. If we do not demand accountability: from our politicians, service providers we will be ripped off as these “animals” satisfy their own needs.
Have you checked with any of the “people from the past” that they are the posters. It is possible that their identity has been “borrowed”. Perhaps - if the postings are still available you and Stella could compare and see if the postings are similar

Back to the original posting … I use a lot of social media and have a wide range of friends, many real and lots of ‘virtual’. I’m often surprised by what my friends post - many hold different views to me on politics, religion, etc. but we generally agree to disagree in a friendly way although Brexit did get a bit twitchy. In the last fortnight I’ve been mildly shocked at the vitriol on the FBook and Twitter feeds of some acquaintances who support Labour - real put-downs of those who aren’t voting their way and almost a sneering derision of anyone who votes Tory. Actually, that’s mostly my younger acquaintances under the age of 30 or so rather than those my own age. But it’s a free world and they’re entitled to their view although in posting it publicly they’re inviting comments. What’s the saying “you may be invited to a fight but you don’t have to go …”.? But I would never unfriend someone because they’re a Labour voter or anti-immigration or have views on religion that don’t accord with my own - it’s important to keep an open mind and respect their right to free speech.

Interestingly most of my observations have been of Tory voters on FB who appear to think that it is perfectly acceptable to write insulting comments and put downs against the leader of the Labour Party, usually using foul language. These were not young people but mature people who I knew in positions of responsibilities and as mothers and fathers. What are they afraid of. How can a truthful person who sticks to his well known principles be do dangerous for their lives? They are entitled to think what they like but I’m surprised they are happy to allow the rest of the works see this side of their character.

I too have many socialist friends and they deride and abuse anyone who is Tory whether they be the MPs or just voters. Often in ways that if the comments were made by someone on the Right they would be screaming about it. I suspect it comes from the fact that many on the left believe themselves to have the moral highground and thus the right to abuse those who do not agree. Now the election is over, whilst obviously Labour have done better than expected they lost the election. It is rather as though they are celebrating losing the FA cup 2-0 when they thought they would lose 6-0.

The big thing for me though, is that once upon a time, a person’s political preferences were a matter for that person and they were kept private. I’m not sure things are better now that it seems de rigeur to shout them from the rooftops!

I understand what you’re saying Dave but… I’d much rather know if the people ‘currently’ around me vote to my detriment. I’d at least like the chance to help them see the light !

I don’t think that anyone ‘won’ the election.
