Any advice welcome and appreciated

Your diagram gives the definitive answer on why one should always “faire la bise” three times (see item 4).

It also shows that the Midi is infested with celery.

I thought that the Mistral blew from the north.

The Mistral does come from the North. I’m surprised that it shows the Tramontane coming from the North as well. Where we are, in the path of the Tramontane, it certainly does seem to come from the Med rather than towards the Med. We could be getting some of the Autan but we’re much closer to the Tramontane.

Do I feel the chill of Crit’Air ruffling the leaves… and, if so… from which direction

Thank you all for some lovely suggestions, it really is helping. May I also ask if there are any jobs for English speakers in these areas. My husband and oldest daughter (21) don’t speak French. My husband has worked for the NhS and charities in social care sector, where he is currently a service manager, and although he may keep the job in some capacity, it may mean a fresh start for him. So I am just exploring avenues. :palm_tree:

As I understand the diagram it does show the Mistral coming from the north and the Tramontane blowing from the Med.

It shows the Tramontane coming from the North West as here

It’s the Autan that blows over the Montagne Noire where we are it seems, and that does come from the Med.

Do you have the right to work in France? That’s the big hurdle, and then speaking some French. Oh, and be aware that remote work is difficult here as costs to employer are too high.

Which, as it seems to originate from the direction of Holland, maybe why a Dutch friend of ours once told us ‘always 3 in The Netherlands’.

It will be challenging to find employment, even assuming that they are authorised to search for employment (which will depend on their visa status), to find a job in France if they have no French at all. You haven’t said (in this thread, at least, that I can see, but perhaps I’ve missed it) how you or your family would be entitled to live in France, and that would really need to be the first consideration. If you have legal residency sorted, e.g. because you and/or your spouse has citizenship from an EU country, then at least the problems linked to being able to reside in France and look for work will be dealt with more easily than if you are just all UK-passport holders.
