Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! šŸ™‚) (Part 1)

They were nice, at least to me anyway. Tesco has had Christmas stuff in for a couple of weeks already, but this was my first Lidl shop in a while.

Yes, my cheerful news today is this thread !!!

The first part of my good news - I hope there will be more tomorrow - is that Bertie (our 13-year old mutt) is in Bordeaux having his back left knee cruciate ligament replaced by a young surgeon who speaks perfect English, was absolutely wonderful this morning and has been doing this op since 2006 and so knows exactly what he is doing - couldn’t be more reassuring. He has worked on this technique as long as Noel Fitzpatrick (Supervet) who did the same op on one of our Airedales in 2007 when it was all very new.
My big fear all this last week has been that the surgeon would not operate on Bertie because he was too old and had other health problems. But there was no question about it.

Very much hoping for positive post-op news for Bertie tomorrow.

OH had a bit of a turn yesterday and our plans for a day out had to be cancelled.
Neighbours wanted to know why we were unexpectedly at home and they obviously spread the word…

Folk must think I starve him as we’ve received all sorts of get-well stuff… his favourite chocolate biscuits, fresh figs, a package of crĆŖpes (still warm), a pot of local honey and half a dozen eggs… oh, and I almost forgot the apple tart (also still warm)… yummy
The good news is that his appetite has returned… :+1:

Well done. Can’t wait for my french pension next year as its increased a huge amount by waiting a bit longer and although not a full pension, enough to give me something to put aside for a rainy day each month, soon adds up if you don’t touch it.

A lovely smell is pervading the house… figs and apples are gently simmering and I’ve thrown in some ginger for good measure…
The plan is to have some of this blitzed-mix with the remaining crĆŖpes…

Any leftover mix will go in the freezer…
(figs should perhaps carry a health-warning…  )

To quote the (in)famous supermarket

For those that can still remember him, I just had a call with Mark Rimmer to sort out the new carte grise for my new electric moto, after I finally managed to extract myself from the clutches of the ā€˜bogus carte grise’ site. What a very helpful and obliging guy Mark is. Nothing too much trouble, and the whole process completed quickly and efficiently over the phone - tremendous! What a pity he no longer joins the forum.

Agreed. Very knowledgeable chap!

Seconded, but I had no idea he no longer did, just thought he was an infrequent poster.

It may not be connected, but he seemed to stop posting after a new ā€˜car enthusiast’ member who, with his chums, modified cars (engines, exhausts, brakes, steering etc) asserted that the mods had no bearing on passing a CT etc.

Mark argued otherwise and was opposed by the new poster at every step. If I were him I’d probably have left too on the basis that I don’t have any interest in arguing with idiots.

And that is exactly the reason, as I also asked him about it today, knowing how valuable he is/was with all his knowledge and advice. A bit sad really, but I guess these things happen unfortunately. Nevertheless, a real pity.

Figs, apples, ginger. A marriage made in heaven. Enjoy.

I’ve never done this mixture before… no added sugar or anything… except the ginger… and then blitzed it a bit… it was delicious.
Mind you, the figs were very, very ripe… oooozing juices… fabulous.

No alcohol in that? thinking a toss of cognac might suit that mix

I had to have my lung capacity tested the other day, which I dislike intensley, but it was worthwhile.
I am breathing better, which is what I thought.
My very expensive monthly injection is working.
