Any cheerful news today? (Nothing negative please! 🙂)

I remember all those versions but, can’t get it out of my head that it was something different.

Something along the lines of the bird being on the wing but no the wing is on the bird.

One of these days it will come to me in a flash, unless someone else gets there first.

Hmm
 more cheerful news
 (I think/hope)
I’ve just caught myself muttering “the Ancient Mariner” poem
 another favourite from school days

and then
 I thought of

"blah blah
the sun (something) is ris
I wonder where the birdies is "

does that ring any bells ??? @David_Spardo
although that wasn’t on the school curriculum

I think you’ve got it, but I can’t fill in the blanks yet.

How about this:

The stars have gone the sun is ris
I wonder where the birdies is
The birdies are upon the wing
But no that is absurd,
Because the wing is on the bird

Yes, I know it doesn’t scan properly but it’s the nearest I can get at the moment.

In fact it does sound ok with the comma after absurd, indicating a pause. Better?

I have had my letter for some time.
The vaccinations start here on the 16th October and I will make my appointment asap as my lungs are already compromised.

No idea why they’re called that but cannes anglaises are the ones with a support and locator cup for the forearm, in addition to the grip. I’ve been prescribed some to use after my hip operation.

Yep
in 2007 I suddenly found myself using a pair of these
 marvellous things

Still got them as the Medical Centre/Pharmacy refused to take them back.
Seems that as they’d been issued on a Prescription they were “mine for life
” (which sounds daft, but heigh-ho)
However, the lightweight wheelchair was welcomed back to its Supplier
apparently that definitely was only on loan

the crutches are still around. I’ve had to use them from time to
time over the years

and they get loaned out to neighbours/friends as and when

and the cheerful news is that I haven’t had the need for another wheelchair since 2007

Had message from family in NC earlier. They and the fur babies are OK but had to wait in line for four hours to fill water containers, the only way out onto the BlueRidge Parkway has collapsed with estimates of a year to repair it, the National Guard are in the area helping out and things are running out so food and water will have to be airlifted in. Those who moan about a small amount of rain/wind should think themselves lucky they havn’t suffered like so many this year all round the world. Daughter said they want a shower so much but are collecting water from puddles etc to flush the loo with and boiling everything else on the gas BBQ.

I was given them for my bunions last year and still have them as they don’t take them back. Very comfortable to use when I remember those horrible wooden things back in the day that did not adjust and you had to be fitted to the right height and then they made your armpits ache badly. I shall loan them to anyone who needs support to save getting a new pair.

I will wait until November as the nurse said that is when the virus starts to do the rounds and having the jab too early means it expires sooner. The little ones are always full of germs and illnesses from school and crĂȘche so I try not to go near when they are off - week before last was Norovirus week from the crĂȘche which really annoys us because the parents don’t care, take their kids because work is more important and leave them all day thus infecting everyone around who take it home and voila, it spreads.

The same thing here, I still have Fran’s canes with the arm supports, her outdoor wheelchair and the indoor electric one too which is fabric and reclines to a gentle sleeping position, as well as the single bed mattress that came with the medical bed and was replaced by an electrically inflated one. Only the medical bed itself with that mattress was reclaimed.

I have no use for the outdoor chair (yet) but that recliner is wonderful and on sunny days (it is in the south facing kitchen veranda) is lovely to read in, listen to the radio in, and have an afternoon snooze in. :joy:
Looking forward to sunny winter afternoons with the heating switched off.

Well, it’s cheerful news that you don’t need the other stuff

In our small village/commune
between us, we’ve amassed quite a selection of medical bits and bobs and it’s good that these can be shared, thus avoiding unnecessary expense/strain on the French Health Service

Pascale who helps in the house for me also works at Maternelle a d sometimes she calls and says that something is going round and she doesn’t want me to catch it, so we miss a week.

Thanks to Elon Musk and Starlink plus a very insistant ex- marine officer living next door to my family, they have been given a ground satelite system so they can contact us via their phone and the power is back on but no water still. Lake Lure is a terrifying sight they said, no water to be seen just debris and still over a hundred missing in their town of Asheville.

Good to hear they’re OK :+1:

well, that is certainly cheerful news
she’s really looking after your interests
and sounds like a wonderful person
 very thoughtful.

I’ve been following this online and it looks like the area in and around Ashfield has been devastated. Not just the damage caused by wind and unprecedented rainfall but interstate highways ripped up, power and water supplies down possibly for weeks or months in some places, burst dams and more. It all looks a bit apocalyptical.

Yes, family live just three miles from the centre of the town in a rental complex at the moment as they are house hunting. I told them to be careful now where they choose and what they choose because so much of the infrastructure has gone, properties are bound to be damaged and they could end up with a lot of trouble. They have been using the pool water in the complex to flush the toilets with and there is a big outdoor solid gazebo where everyone has put their patio furniture and they are all congregating with the neighbours and sharing food and drink. My son in law was glad he had put his Harley away when the storm hit but his Hellcat had to be left in the parking area along with their Jeep but all survived without any damage from trees and debris. There are a lot of artisanal breweries all round the area, its a bit like Glastonbury and many have been totally destroyed. Luckily they have a satelite phone used for work so have been able to keep in touch and now the Starlink has arrived, that will help also.
