And no, given what people in other parts of France are experiencing weather wise, I am not complaining but as it’s going to be another soggy Saturday (and Sunday) I’m wondering whether to get lots of jobs done or just sit on the sofa and read…
What have you got planned?
If you’ve got nothing better to do you can watch (or listen) to my podcast and if you enjoy my weekly witterings about life in France on the podcast, (let alone this amazing site) you can show your support by buying me a coffee - or something stronger…!
Thank you - I really appreciate the support and it means a lot.
I completely agree, a soggy weekend can feel oddly luxurious if you lean into it rather than fight it!
As for us, Saturday is shaping up to be rather sweet. I’m taking my (almost!) eight-month-old son to his music class, which at the moment mostly involves him enthusiastically army-crawling around the room and occasionally thumping a few keys on the electric piano. It’s chaotic in the best possible way, and I love seeing him discover new sounds (and new corners of the room). Watching him grow and gain confidence week by week is pretty special.
Afterwards, we’re planning lunch at my favourite local Korean spot, then heading over to see a friend of mine who’s a priest at his church in the 6th in Paris. They’re hosting some kind of afternoon Korean event, which sounds like a lovely way to round off the day.
On Sunday, I’ll take him to the library – he’s completely fascinated by the pop-up books at the moment – and I’ll sneak in some time with the newspapers while he explores.
So while it may be grey outside, it’s looking like a cosy, full weekend for us. And if there’s a quiet moment somewhere in between crawling, coffee and culture, I may well tune into the podcast too!
The thread title reminded me of the expression “something for the weekend sir?”.
It’s valentine’s day in the UK.
My brother and SIL should be coming over, and if the precipitation stops then we’ll probably go for a walk. I’ve also got a couple of hundred pictures from Tenerife and a photo course to develop and Sunday morning I should be playing guitar in a church.
Despite being partially cut off by floods, I’ve been very grateful for the recent heavy rain as it’s made it much easier to straighten a murier that’s been tilting increasingly over the past couple of years.
I dug a trench around it before the rains came and then kept further loosening the roots every day. This coming week, I’ll get it absolutely up right and then keep it roped in position till Spring '27. Most of the videos I’ve watched doing something similar involved tying the tree to a pick-up, but here you can’t get one up the garden steps…
After the recent storms we are still without power so no heating nor cookers - thankfully is not that cold and tomorrow is Valentine’s Day so will be warm with a cuddle tomorrow!!
I think we are going to stay in and read, but if the rain stops, we want to take a walk to the Cascades de Murel. We want to see the waterfall in full flow. If it is unreachable, we won’t take any chances. Usually there is a nice pool under the waterfall to take a dip in but I think I will give an icy dip a miss.
Yes - Madame is here for a weekend visit so we are going to the Grantley Arms for dinner tonight.
It’s actually sunny in Sud-Angleterre this morning so an exciting drive to Sainsbury’s is on the cards first thing, followed by a tour of the district so Di can revisit some of her old haunts.
Tomorrow my brother Simon and his crew are coming for Sunday lunch.
‘Normandy Grey’ clouds drifting from the east - temp much reduced. La Manche Libre speculated - snow? At least it isn’t raining.
I saw on a UK forecast prog two days ago that some unfortunate place in Eng has had rain every single day since some date in late Dec - over 40 days.
I can usually watch ITV:X via the VPN built into the TV but last w/e, although I could watch other ITV stuff, it refused to let me watch the Eng match - territorial rights. Changes of server location didn’t work. I shall try again but the alternative is hardly a penance - the FR match on www.france.tv
