Appalling news from UK

The ordeal that the passengers on the ill fated train last night is unimaginable. And nine with life threatening injuries. Terrible.

Yet again - as reported: a black man on the platform waving a large knife. One must understand the resentment that many have hearing such statements time and time again. Yet the police are curbed in ‘stop and search’ when it is well known that 50% of knife crime in London is committed by 13% of the population.

The UK is in bad need of a Rudy Giuliani to bring in zero tolerance.

Who is reporting ‘a Blackman’ , Adam? I’ve read and seen a news report from 2 different sources and neither gave any details other than 2 men.

We don’t - we need better balance in reporting.

Crime in the UK is falling across the board, especially violent crime, though some, particularly shoplifting is currently on the increase (there will always be ups and downs).

Reporting of violent crime never starts with the fact that the events described are getting rarer - no, they’ll just plug how violent it was in the headline to get engagement and you can be certain that if a coloured man stabs someone 95% of the headlines will be “man stabbed by Asian” or some such, even better if it is an asylum seeker - you can guarantee that wont be left out of the headlines whereas if the perpetrator is white attention is hardly ever drawn to their race.

Don’t believe me - what about The Times?
Sorry it’s TikTox but at least it isn’t paywalled.

Paywalled but I think this is the article that goes with the above video.

Exactly - the result of the bias I described is that people start jumping to conclusions.

My guess is that Adam gets his news from sources that many of us here wouldn’t use?

Make that 3 reports and no mention of colour or race.

One of those caught up in the attack and interviewed on the BBC very early this morning - Olly Foster - said it was “a black man in his 20s”.

Am very glad to hear that violent crime is on the decline in the UK.

So?

I didn’t say blacks, asians or asylum seekers never commit crime.

But if crime committed by non-white ethnic groups is reported specifically including mention of the race in the headline and crime committed by whites rarely does, or is reported less then bias easily forms.

Eg compare and contrast the amount of reporting on the Liverpool parade incident with the killing of the three girls at a dance class.

OK the former did not include fatalities but after the initial stories was barely mentioned again - the latter is still generating headlines.

Also don’t forget the immediate assumption that the killer was a) Muslim and b) an asylum seeker and the riots that followed (again this fell out of the news cycle fairly rapidly - wonder if that was anything to with the instigators being white).

Nobody, anywhere, is in need of Rudy Giuliani

I’m sick of hearing reports seeing headlines that focus on the race of a criminal, time to stop pandering to sicko racists!. A criminal is a criminal, nothing to do with race/nationality :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

I’m pointing out that Adam wasn’t jumping to conclusions. The BBC report this morning that it was a “black man in his 20s”.

I’m not a racist and I’m certainly no fan of Giuliano or Reform UK, by the way.

However the claim was that the incident was being reported as “a black man on the platform” whereas, like Debbie, I can’t find that as a headline at the moment.

Strange that their online report doesn’t Helen, that’s why I asked. Seems like the bbc is becoming a nasty mouthpiece for reform.

Sorry, it wasn’t a BBC reporter who said it. It was Olly Foster, a bystander, who was interviewed on the BBC television news in the early hours of this morning.

No doubt all will become clear soon.

Do you have a link to a clip or article - if someone did make that claim and the BBC are no longer reporting it might be because it hasn’t been corroborated (BBC news is a RW cesspit but it does still manage slightly higher standards than some of the other right wing cesspits  )

The eye witness report from Olly Foster online, doesn’t contain that bit Helen, maybe they’ve been asked to not report it further , to prevent trouble .

What is perhaps interesting is that the current reports of was said make no mention of race colour or creed and Olly’s words in the Guardian are reported as

Which suggests Olly was not near enough to have seen the attacker - and was distracted by his audio book in any event.

It was this guy on the left whom I saw on TV very early this morning.

That isn’t a link I can follow and no text in your screenshot has the work “black” - the attacker is described as “a guy”.

I’ve listened to the video with the girl and a) she didn’t see the attacks directly and b) makes no mention of the colour of their skin.

Like you said Helen, it’ll all become clearer in time. One thing I am glad about is, there was no images of the injured people being shown. I can’t imagine how awful it would be if the first you knew about a loved one being seriously injured was via the media.

I saw the report on TV.

The screenshot is from the BBC website, so you listen to it yourself. Assuming it contains the full interview that was broadcast on TV.

I’ve just listened to the clip on the BBC and they’ve cut bits out.
