Appointing a notaire

Hi folks,
If I may pick your brains, in a private sale without the involvement of an estate agent, who appoints the notaire?
And any advice regarding dealing with the notaire ?
Regards

Entirely the choice of each participant in the process of purchase and sale but specifically, the seller usually instructs a notaire and the purchaser often uses the same one. The notaire’s function is essentially to collect any tax due in the process.
The original notaire who sold the property to your seller will in all likelihood still have the papers to hand in his safe.
If two notaire’s are instructed - one each for purchaser and seller - the fee (set by Govt) is split between them.
The notaire does not act in the way a UK solicitor does in the process.
