The UK will be starting trials soon.
Is France likely to do something similar?

Have they become any safer? I really have trouble trusting them after the accidents and mishaps.
Letting them rust would seem to be the safest option. ![]()
I gave you that one, didn’t I?
I’ll amend my post, it’s the typing with one hand effect.
My SIL went in one in S.Francisco to the airport and kept wanting to grab the wheel and take over, he found it very hard to trust the vehicle and vowed not to use one again as it was not a good experience.
Waymo autonomous taxis have been seen in London, not by me though.
They can’t be any worse than the human drivers in our neck of the woods. If they can manage to stay on the right side of the road and not overtake on blind bends and humps in road then that’ll be an improvement.
I’m more worried about who’s going to program the indicators for entering and leaving a roundabout ![]()
My BMW X1 will park itself, and let me tell you, that’s VERY disconcerting, even though it generally does a good job if you can get it to recognise the space you want.
So would the Tiguan.
I tried it once and bottled it halfway through.
The S3 will as well. I’ve yet to try this feature - not been brave enough.
Indeed, the technology isn’t French!
I think the French along with BMW drivers have proven you don’t need them
The first generation Tiguan my wife bought in 2013 to replace her Golf GTD did that very effectively. It was fun sitting there as the wheel spun itself around and passengers were impressed. However parking was so easy with the 360 degree cameras with a vertical view in the second generation one we bought in 2017, it made the automatic capability pretty well redundant, That’s true in the i4 as well. it’s more of a hassle to position the car and press the autopark button that it is just to park it oneself just looking at the display. .
Talking of Waymo, this story reminds me of how it was discovered that companies like Amazon were using humans to listen to Alexa recordings to “train” the AI.

It’s slightly different in that the remote workers are only called upon when the autonomous vehicle gets into a situation where it’s not sure what to do. Also, they don’t take control of the vehicle, they just tell it what to do and let it do it itself. It’s the sort of thing that they will all have to do for the foreseeable future as autonomous cars aren’t infallible.
That’s really funny
… although not for the residents
.
I assume that’s a compound to hold Waymo taxis not in use. Looks like someone has activated them several or all at the same time causing gridlock. It’s a dumb thing to do and can only cause chaos.
Yes, I’m not sure if this was done intentionally or not. But I can imagine a scenario where, in the future, multiple driverless cars are summoned at once. After sporting events or music festivals, for example.
Probably pretty easy to monitor how many times a car (or cars within vicinity of each other) have beeped their horn in x seconds, to try to avoid it.
