I am due to arrive at Bordeaux mid afternoon and want to head straight to ikea from airport - would anyone be able to give very simple (ie idiot proof!!) directions from airport to ikea bordeaux please?

Go out of the airport and get on the rocade. Take the LIBOURNE direction. Just before the Pont d'Aquitaine, take the slip road to the right for IKEA. Check it out with street view if you are worried about what it looks like. If you creep along in the right-hand lane as soon as you are on the rocade you can't miss it.
