I have a Peugeot Partner car and, as it has always been regularly serviced professionally, have never had to trouble the bonnet catch myself.
But in this hot weather with the aircon not working I booked it into the successors of my usual garage. I waited reading for an hour while they did the job and could see that the bonnet was up confirming the job was in progress.
All has been well in the week or so since but I became aware that the screen washers did not work. Decided to check and top up if necessary but the lever in the car was floppy and seemingly not connected. The bonnet was firmly shut and, short of a crowbar could not think how to release it.
I will take it back but it is 15 kms and in the meantime wondered if there was a magic way to release it?
Depends where the problem is - if the cable has disconnected from the handle in the car then you could just grab the wire with pliers and pull. If it has disconnected under the bonnet you will need to access the catch somehow - which will be easier with the car off the ground.

Yes, no sign of the cable in the car so I reckon a job for the professionals tomorrow, as they were able to open it without a problem last week they should be persuaded to look at it without a rdv.

Sorted but donāt know how he did it. I went to the garage and was detailed a man to check it immediately . He pulled the lever there was a click, very faint, then went round the front and inserted his fingers in the line of demarcation (doing it too much justice to describe it as a crack) and then inserted his fat finger in the tiniest of gaps. Click, a fumble, and open sesame.
So, just to emphasise my complete ignorance I asked him which filler was for the screen wash. Duly pointed out I said merci beaucoup and set off homeā¦and topped up the screenwash.
Old confused man wins every time, I allow them their moment of superiority and get the job done. Works every time. But I did think to ask him to fill it up for me but thought, perhaps a bridge too far.

You know, I feel a bit like a very pretty girl who doesnāt have to lift a finger to do the smallest of task. Obviously that does not work with other women, quite the reverse, but it certainly works for old fogies. With both sexes.
I am not quite at the point of lifting a hem to reveal a shapely knee, but I am getting a bit close.
I love being old, and female.
Oh @toryroo I see you agree, but I do assure you I was being normal when we met, not subterfuge.

Aah yes. The essence of Peugeotism. Turn what should be a simple procedure for the owner into a trip to the Peugeot agency with "and thatāll be ā¬XX ⦠"
The first time I needed to open the bonnet I did indeed go to the Peugeot agency. The bloke did it in 20 secs.
āYouāve done this before, havenāt you?ā āErr. Oui ā¦ā
The bonnet release on my 307SW is the same . A flimsy plastic lever set at right angles to the run of the cable to the bonnet catch. Hands up anyone who has a bonnet release so configured? Nobody? ā¦
The U shaped mouldings that are supposed to retain the - at either end of the lever donāt do this. The lever slips out and flops about, unseen in the dark in the px footwell. I have tried but have never managed to invert myself sufficiently to see any of this Mickey Mouse contraption.. I have a sense of how it should work. I keep trying until -LO! I hear a āclickā from the bonnet.
Like Capt Oateās trip outdoors, this may take some time.
āthen inserted his fat finger in the tiniest of gapsā. My fingers are not fat but the result is the same. After some fumbling I find the catch and open the bonnet.
I have moaned at length before on these pages about the iniquitous procedure to change a flat. It deserves a recall and millions ā¬ā¬ā¬ in fines.

A week or so ago, I spotted Beatrice, my kine lady having a long drink from a water bottle. I quipped that she was enjoying it so much perhaps it was a G&T. It wasnāt but we enjoyed the joke . Obviously it hit a deep seated memory of mine so on the way home I bought a bottle of Gordonās and one of tonic.
I should confess that when I made the 3rd of this eveningās posts in this thread I was recovering from the day with a lovely cool glass.

I read the thread title with anticipation thinking someone on SF is doing a Grayson Perry!
May also have occurred likewise to @toryroo
