Buying tickets on SNCF

Not really.

Trainline fails to sell tickets on their website involving Eurostar that include protection for the connection when an end to end journey is being searched and bought. Website sells the ticket, tickets it as separate journeys that are not
protected if one of the trains is too late to connect and fails to warn the customer that they are not offering the same protection as SNCF.

Additionally and annoyingly, despite issuing unprotected tickets, in the search Trainline is not showing options that do allow the customer to choose a longer connection time. On a through route end to end journey search only the official time best connection based on believing Eurostar will arrive on time is offered. No way round it. I tried.

Experienced Eurostar users know that Eurostar is frequently late on their Paris route. Anyone taking Eurostarā€™s official arrival time as a basis for connecting to another train is frankly nuts but that is what booking on the Trainline website restricts you to. So if any train on the full end to end journey you searched on Trainline website as a single journey is late you are unprotected. You do not have the automatic right to take other trains, nor other Eurostar trains if your SNCF train(s) failed to arrive on time , if you have been sold an unprotected journey.

It seems the app may issue warnings but IMVRE the website did not.

Good to know - thanks!

Talking of Eurostar, this popped up on my Reddit feed this morningā€¦

With St Pancras International now struggling to cope with passenger numbers at times, Sir Stephen believes there is a growing case for Eurostar services to stop at the East London station.

He told The Standard: ā€œIt would be another very significant boost to employment and prosperity in east London.ā€

The Stratford shopping complex, and the 2012 Olympics, were key in helping to regenerate this part of the capital.

But Sir Stephen, who has represented East Ham since 1994, believes international trains would make the area even more attractive for firms to locate in.

ā€œIā€™m quite sure we would get more investment and companies coming,ā€ he said.

Would be convenient for visiting my son who lives in that part of London, but I canā€™t see it happening realistically.

They donā€™t even stop at ā€œAshford Internationalā€ or ā€œEbbsfleet Internationalā€ any more. Stations purpose-built for Eurostar,

Ha, yes, Iā€™d forgotten about Ebbsfleet. Used that once many, many years ago. It was pretty convenient from what I remember.

Has it been permanently closed for Eurostar or just mothballed?

There were a few loud voices not long ago looking into re openning Ebbsfleet. Bigest issue is you cant get to Ebbsfleet easily, possibly a major FU at the planning stage.

I think Eurostar just refuse to stop there - I believe you can still catch a train into London on a SouthEastern Javelin.

You can if you live in North-West Kent, or the bottom half of Essex.

While the SNCF aficionados are on the case, can I get an explanation of a  re my Senior Advantage Card?

Iā€™m looking at the receipt for my card, valid 01/01/24 to 31/12/24. and another screen showing ā€˜Carte Avantage Senior TGV INOUIā€™ valid until 31/12/31.

But when I go to SNCF.com and my account and open ā€˜Your SNCF cardā€™s QR codeā€™ is shows ā€˜No code to display - you do not have a valid loyalty card or discount card or it was purchased on another channel other than SNCFā€™. I bought it from Trainline.

How cn I get SNCF to recognise/register my card?
