Work continues chez Fitzgerald and not surprisingly our activities have drawn quite a lot of interest as ton after ton of earth and stone is excavated from our house. Last time I spoke about removing the cuve resulting in lots of wrangled metal. We also dug up the earth floor and removed the tiled vaulted lower ceiling from the old stables below. You can see the iron RSJ's below
View from below with quite a lot of rubble to be reused as hard-standing for the car parking places. The stone wall below will soon be removed too, heaven knows what's behind it!
There is my old water tank - not really big enough for a family of 5.
This little fella helped remove the rubble:The tank in the background is my rainwater harvesting tank for capturing water from the roof of our house and our neighbours roof (it's an ex-alcohol tank which has an enamelled interior in great condition). The idea is we will sink this tank into a pit in the garden and then use it to water our vegetables throughout the year.
Next step was to remove the RSJs.
Now I was wondering how they would do this without scaffolding…turns out the diggers are very useful for standing on!
Our garden is now resembling a proper building site, much to the amusement and curiosity of everyone that drives past. Next job is to start taking down the stone wall & excavate!
