Hi everyone

Looking to cancel French car insurance.

I suspect this may not be straight forward

We changed insurance recently and it was straightforward…

What notice did you have to give?

Hi Gary, in years past, it used to be two months notice before the contract expired, or less if your contract with the insurer had been running for longer than a year. When we have changed insurers, they have always notified the old insurer of the new policy. That hasn’t always stopped them from sending a bill for a renewal, but a telephone call in that case has always sufficed.
If you are not renewing, send them a cancellation letter. Google ‘lettre de resiliation’ for some examples. They are quite straightforward. Very important to send one for changing a mobile or telephone contract otherwise they will often just keep taking the money from your account.
Regards
Paul

We had had our insurance for a few years so it was just a month.

Very useful advice and reminder, Paul. So thanks, it could save many of us an expensive oversight.
