Captain Spurheels insults

The shivering coward who dodged Vietnam is now insulting Nato troops. Absolute shower of lying you know what! Trump sparks anger with claim Nato troops avoided Afghanistan front line

No surprise there really. Just when you think Trump has reached the bottom he finds new depths to plumb.

I see also this morning that he has withdrawn Canada’s invitation to join his ā€œBoard of Peaceā€ (aka ā€œBored with Peaceā€) due to Mark Carney’s takedown at Davos (and perhaps more importantly) Canada’s unwillingness to pay a $1B bribe to the Orange Blackmailer.

I don’t see why anyone would want to pay $1bn to do latest gift. If you only want a 3 year membership you don’t have to pay AIUI.

Of course your membership can be cancelled if the chairman decides.

I am wondering why every time I see Mark Carney’s name I want to say it out loud with an Irish accent.

Much the same with Martha. Very strange, it doesn’t work with O’Rourke. A married couple I know, she is from Aberdeen, and speaks like it (though French people think she is from Quebec) and husband is a very obvious Scouser.

It seems to be a vehicle for Trump and it’s not really clear if the US is the lead, or simply Trump himself. It seems that the charter makes him personally a member for life

Cold War Steve nails it again.

That’s too obscene to ā€œlikeā€ but exactly what Trump is currently doing. But, then, he has never, ever, honoured fallen service men and only does so for active military personnel to the extent that they are useful to furthering his own goals.

The last few paragraphs are priceless.

Agreed, Cold War Steve doesn’t pull his punches, and I wouldn’t normally share his stuff here, but this is so on the money.

Even Starmer has grown some in condemnation of Trump and his wrong statement on Afghanistan

Meanwhile, where’s Farage?

Taking up the rear in some back alley

It seems even that odious pr*ck will not side with Trump on this one

Interesting how so many of the ultra right are now trying to find some middle ground between Trump and their voters.

Certainly le Pen’s in a spin, but I think Meloni might manage it.

Again I can’t bring myself to ā€œlikeā€ this but it is accurate - except for one thing.

It does not matter which nation’s flag is flying - Trump disrespects all fallen servicemen and women equally.

He really is a sh*tstain on the arse of humanity, in fact he gives sh*tstains a bad rep.

Don’t forget his country men and women voted for him and says lots about them and their beliefs.

Or chairman even. This is supposedly a leaked draft of the charter, the charter hasn’t actually been published yet. It seems he’s the chairman in his own right and, separately, a representative of the USA.

Article 3.2: Chairman

(a) Donald J. Trump shall serve as inaugural Chairman of the Board of Peace, and he shall separately serve as inaugural representative of the United States of America, subject only to the provisions of Chapter III.

(b) The Chairman shall have exclusive authority to create, modify, or dissolve subsidiary entities as necessary or appropriate to fulfill the Board of Peace’s mission.

Article 3.3: Succession and Replacement

The Chairman shall at all times designate a successor for the role of Chairman. Replacement of the Chairman may occur only following voluntary resignation or as a result of incapacity, as determined by a unanimous vote of the Executive Board, at which time the Chairman’s designated successor shall immediately assume the position of the Chairman and all associated duties and authorities of the Chairman.

And Peter Ricketts has done a very good summary of the overall charter, which explains why no one serious will sign up.

In my forthcoming book on the men and women of the FO in WWII, I tell the story of the UN Charter negotiations. Here is a :thread:on how the Board of Peace compares. A question to start. Which Charter reads more like the prospectus for a posh golf club? A clue is in the adoption ceremony for each 1/11

The UN Charter came from hard strategic thinking in the FO and State Dept in the middle of the war about the shape of the future peace. A draft was discussed first with Soviet and Chinese reps. 50 nations spent 8 weeks in 1945 negotiating in San Francisco before adopting the text unanimously. 2/11

The Board of Peace Charter seems to have been written entirely in Trump’s inner circle and then sent to a selected group of countries on a take it or leave it basis. The White House still don’t seem to have published the text. Here is a leaked copy 3/11 www.timesofisrael.com/full-text-ch…

Like all good golf clubs the entry fee is steep ($1bn for lifetime membership). The Chairman clearly intends to keep a tight grip on his Club. His powers include to invite members and to dismiss them (subject to veto by two-thirds majority). Also to call meetings and approve the agenda. 4/11

The Chair also chooses members of the Executive Board and can veto any of their decisions (Tony Blair take note). He is the final authority on the Charter’s meaning and must approve any amendments. Plus there are (as you would expect) stringent provisions against Palace coups. 5/11

The Chair can only be replaced if he resigns voluntarily or in case of incapacity as decided by unanimous vote of the Executive Board (the members of which just happen to be chosen by the Chair). So the Chair’s position is pretty iron-clad. 6/11

Finally, there is a curiously specific provision for dissolution. This can happen ā€˜as the Chairman considers necessary or appropriate, or at the end of every odd-numbered calendar year, unless renewed by the Chairman no later than November 21 of such odd-numbered years’. Why this date? 7/11

Is it to put the decision in the middle of the two-year US electoral cycle? That’s the Board of Peace, selected by Chairman for Life Trump and with all power concentrated in his hands. The UN Charter, by contrast, owed its legitimacy to its universality and extensive discussion of the text. 8/11

The UN of course covers a far wider span of economic and social issues. The real aim of the Board of Peace is to replace the Security Council in putting an end to wars. And it’s true that the Council has often been ineffective, log-jammed by veto-wielding Permanent Members. However…9/11

The Foreign Office negotiators well knew in 1945 that the veto power built a serious weakness into the UN. But it was the only way to get the US/Soviets on board. That’s why they were already drawing up a blueprint in 1945 for a collective defence organisation among allies against Stalin. 10/11

No other major country will join a Board where Trump wields all the power. It should focus on one issue: to deliver Phase 2 of the Gaza plan. If the BofP can oversee an international force, disarming of Hamas, Israeli withdrawal and reconstruction it will show that it is much more than a golf club.

Thank you Billy. Sums it all up perfectly.
