Hi Had an accident in uk ( not my fault ), Reported it within a couple of hours to my insurer, pick a garage for repairs, Then nothing, 5 days later I am told to contact the assessor to arrange an assesment at the garage, did that for yesterday. A voice mail from him stated that its subject to “procédure gravement endommagé”, which I understand is don’t drive it. The repair garage let me drive it home. What should happen next? The assurance co don’t seem to want to help me in any way. I had assumed that they would contact me to arrange a loan car. Interested to know if this is the new way.
About 10 years ago I had an accident took it to the nominated garage, arranged a date for repair, recived a loan car and that was ir
Does you policy include option for a loan car? Not all do.
As I understand it you need to get the expert to tell you whether the car is repairable or is too badly damaged and will need to be written off. So priority is to chase the expert.
Depending on that assessment you can organise next steps.
No idea about France, but in the UK you will only get a loan vehicle (even if in the policy) if the vehicle is being repaired. If it is a write off you won’t.
I do get a loan car for 12 days, But getting clarification of progress is like pulling teeth, The worst customer support I have ever come across
My DIL wrote off their car last July, two weeks later they had the money through to go and buy a brand new car to replace it. The insurance sent the assessor to the garage where it had been taken two days later after my son chased them up and his report came within four days and the payment the week after that into their bank.
Sounds frustrating, but unfortunately not unusual anymore, especially with a UK accident handled by a French insurer. “Procédure gravement endommagé” means the car is considered potentially unsafe until the expert validates it, so technically you shouldn’t be driving it. Now you’re basically waiting for the assessor’s report to be sent to the insurer, who will then decide whether to repair or write off the car.
The delay is often there, and insurers don’t chase much anymore, so you have to push them yourself. Same for the courtesy car, it usually starts once repairs are approved and is often limited (your 12 days sounds standard).
Which insurance company is that, Roy?
Not sure we are allowed to mention companies?
But its the arm of a well known bank , that has an english speaking branch in normandie
Wouldn’t be Axa by any chance? Your experience sounds similar to the one I had a while back after a “too expensive to repair” write off collision in the UK.
Posted before the answer, ignore.
Took me 2 months to get a final report and the car back to France. Fortunately, in the end, I didn’t have to pay for the extended rental that the assistance begrudgingly provided after much insistence on my part.
Pacifica then…
thats the one, about 10 years ago no problems , Now they are slow unresponsive and make me set up the assessor meeting
Now they have an extensive client Bank no doubt. Often happens with large institutions, when they want the business can’t do enough for you.
