Hi,
I’m looking to change the interior layout in a touring caravan.
To make life “easier” I’m planning to buy an old (10-15yr old) French registered caravan with working brakes & hitch, strip the interior and start afresh with a simpler, and hopefully lighter layout.
Are there any French laws I need to be aware of to keep the caravan road legal?
Is the Contrôle Technique test just about the brakes & hitch?
I’m guessing I’ll need to get the finished caravan weighed and the Carte grise (G1) updated?
Thanks in advance,
R
Hello Richard and welcome to the forum.
I think changes might well mean you have to go put the finished caravan through DREAL. Where the whole thing will be checked-over and approved (or not).
This link is useful in many areas, including … the legalities… although this was 2017… maybe upgraded by now…

Hi Stella,
Many thanks for responding.
I’ll follow that link and keep searching.
Thanks

cheers Richard…sorry not to have more info…
Just a thought… you might find it useful to checkout some of the magazines available for caravan enthusiasts…
some of them do have useful articles… and a quick browse while you’re at the Newsagent would sort the wheat from the chaff…
