First post for me, but active reader. Just read discussion on renewing the carte vitale. We are Americans and have been retired residents in France for almost 5 years. We have conscientiously renewed our Tigre de sejours every year with no trouble. We have heard that as non-EU citizens we can apply for the carte vitale after 5 years resident. Are there other Americans out there who have gone through the process or anyone at all who knows how this works for us non-EU, French resident retirees? Any info appreciated. Michele
Thanks Marie. It is helpful. I would love to know if there are other non eu residents who have had any experience with the process. Especially would like to know even if and when we could apply.
Michele, you could go to your Maiie and see if they have the form for registering for the CPAM, sometimes in the small village they have those form available or you could go to the CPAM office nearest to you and have someone help you there, fill in the registration form, you would need your copy of your last US income tax form and your carte de sejour, when the CPAM registration is completed you will receive what they call an attestation that you keep with you at all time until you receive you Green Carte Vitale .
I hope this helped.
