My multiport control is leaking, probably cracked, so maybe a good excuse to upgrade to a cartridge filter and save a little more water from backwashing.
Does anyone here use a cartridge filter on a large pool, say 70 - 100M3?
I’d be interested in your comments on the size and make you have, clarity of water and especially maintenance - how many times you clean, how much water taken to hose a cartridge down compared to backwashing etc etc…

Thats a down grade in my book. You’ll be shocked by the price of the 4+ cartridges when needing replacement. Also the lack of truly fine filtration and cannot use any flocculent. 4 cartridges takes quite a bit of water to clean properly and you get to handle all that gunk.
Where is your multiport leaking from? Any mods could be a good time to introduce air assistance to the backwash.
‘Upgrade’ maybe the wrong word, yes! Maybe cross-grade.
Two reasons - one to reduce water wasted during backwash, and two, I am now running at a slow speed (that cheap pump was useless, so sent it back. Now using a Zodiac E3 VS, 24/7 at eco speed drawing +\- 140W…) where a cartridge filter is allegedly more beneficial. The model I am looking at is a Zodiac CS150 or CS200 with a single cartridge renewable every three years or so at 200€ odd. It seems quite easy to split for maintenance.
My existing filter is over 15 years old and unbranded, so I doubt I will find a replacement vanne.
Well 140 Watts is a lot better and it’s quite a sizeable pool. Now the greatest headloss is entirely down to the multi port. Using a straighthrough valve will save a lot of friction. I use several options but currently the backwash valve from Jandy. A bit of pipe adaption and you could also introduce air assistance (sorry I actually do not have a picture of mine)
