This thread shows (as always) that we’re a really mixed bunch with a wide variety of experiences/happenings and preferences. 
and, as is so often the case, there is not one answer/situation which suits everyone
Been typing on Azerty since 1988, with a 4 year interlude on a Swiss Intl keyboard, and the occasional switch to Qwerty US/UK depending on where I got the hardware (e.g. laptops from China), that is connected to it.
A German QWERTZ keyboard has a similar layout to a QWERTY, only the z and y are swapped, and there are accent and circumflex keys, plus umlauts if you were to need them.
