Hi all, friends have had a builder doing interesting things with the top of their chimney when he put it in. He capped to the top of the tube, burying the hood fittings, which is too close anyway, in his enthusiasm. He’s apparently still got an active siret number, but people have said that he’s gone back to the UK. Question I have is: Who will be able to tell that the number is in fact still registered, and how would I find his decennial? He also plonked a chimney insert on the floor of an open fireplace and connected it. But I don’t think that’s legal? It’s an insert, not a poêle. Any pointers gratefully received.
It’s too late for this situation, but this is the time to remind people, again, that you should get evidence of an artisan’s insurances with the devis & before you sign it.
A proper artisan will offer the evidence & not wait to be asked.
This should lead you to his details
As long as he had deçennelle insurance you can still claim provided you have the details of the insurers which must appear on official paperwork and also as a seperate form when the work is fully completed. Anyone who engages workmen who cannot produce their SIRET, Deçenelle, TVA reg number and other info on officially printed paperwork including devis for everything that both the customer and artisan have to sign and date will always end up in trouble. If this one was registered at the Chambre de Mètiers, they might be able to trace his insurer if he had been covered which sounds doubtful and therefore I am afraid there is no comeback. The building company that built this new house for me went into liquidation last year but I have all their insurance details and now need to have some pipework replaced in the vide sanitaire under the house, when ringing them they are taking it on and also asked if any of the crépi has cracked or broken as my neighbour, house built by same firm has put in a claim for crépi to be redone, all at no cost to either of us.
