Death of the Queen - 70 years together

I have known nothing other than Her Majesty in my life - a remarkable human being for whom we had great love, admiration and respect and will miss her enormously. I wonder how long it will be before her passing will attract the unpleasantness from the anti-royalists - already saw this on here “After one meeting (with Truss) she lost the will to live”. I thought he was better than that but you live and learn.

That’s humour not unpleasantness.

And a dig at Truss, not the Queen.

Humour perhaps but in my opinion I feel it was perhaps misplaced under the circumstances. We all have different views on a situation as significant as this as we are all indeed very different.
No doubt there will be much satire of the event in the coming days and weeks but for me it is all too raw at the moment.

I agree, it’s the timing that makes it unpleasant.

unpleasantness - the comment mentioned above, not Paddington !

I’m confused. Is this thread supposed to be a celebration of the queen’s reign or a dig at SF members?

I agree there’s a time and a place. For me this isn’t either or.

Dear @Gareth don’t be confused - it’s both.

Personally, I’m happy with the Paddington joke… as I like to think that folk do meet up again with those they love…
and I know that my Mother in Law really hoped that she would meet her beloved husband who had died 10 years before…
I was sitting by her hospital bed and we had quite a chat about such things… and I saw her face gradually change from haggard/pain wracked… to a gentle calmness… as she fell asleep for the last time.

I don’t think it’s Paddington that’s bothering people Stella, there’s some lovely sweet pictures out there

I considered making the obvious crack regarding Ms Truss but considered it in poor taste so refrained.

She’s a sad loss in difficult times. As an icon of stability, duty and continuity she will be missed.

As for humour, it’s a normal part of dealing with loss. I doubt that she would have been offended and I’m sure that Philip, the master of a wisecrack (sometimes even inoffensive ones) would not have been.

Same here.

First job this morning is lowering the union flag to half mast. Knew it would come however the shock still remains.

May not be in tune but sung with gusto and from the heart. Saddest days for GB

Maybe an opportune time to get rid of the current dirge (it will be even worse now) and replace it with something more upbeat/rousing

Continuity?!?
