Hi all!
Hoping someone can help assuming that many people have done this already.....I found out yesterday that we had to do a Déclaration de revenus 2012.......Those in the know will realize that clearly we are late in the payment! Unfortunately we have only been here a year and in New Zealand (all the tax 'stuff') things are done automatically....and this paperwork caught us a bit by suprise.
Family situation is family of four, children aged 7 and 10. My husband and I are both working, he was given a letter from his employers telling him what he needs to pay. I don't have anything. We didn't receive the déclaration in the mail as we have been told we should have, but I found the site and I downloaded the forms (hoping they're the correct ones). I am good to get started....if only I understood what any of it was about!
Queries:
Do we do seperate declarations or do we do one for both of us? How do I find out exactly what I earned? What 'tax breaks' should I be looking for? Where do I send it when it's filled out and do I send the cheque payment with the déclaration? Any info would be gratefully received......
Help!!
Claire
You will need to complete it as a family, your kids are the tax breaks and the amount you earned for 2012 will be found on your December payslip - it tells you your earnings each month and also year to date. with two children you will have little to pay unless you are high earners.
Your husbands employers can not know what you will have to pay as each family is different, I suspect the letter tells him what he has earned and how much he has paid in 'charges sociales'.
Don't worry as you have only just arrived here and going to the Hotel des Impots they are usually very helpful. it is a very bizarre system as the first declaration you always have to go and tell them you need a form - typically French :-)
Thanks David! I appreciate the help.

if you go here you can download a tax guide in English.

Your 2013 tax is based on your income in 2012. One declaration per "foyer"or household. I would take your completed forms to the "Hôtel des Impots" for your district this is usually to be found in a town which is the Prefecture or sous prefecture of the département. Next time you will be sent your tax forms partly completed with your persoonal details and tax reference number.
