Long story short. My nearly ex late husband lived in house until 2018. Since then it has been empty and on the market at a pittance since 2024.
It has been vandalised (again) and I need someone to organise:
edf to come and fix the compteur
an electrician to fix the fuse board which has been completely pulled off the wall
general tidy of broken stuff (bathroom and kitchen - have photos from estate agents I can share)
making the place secure including the house itself and the barn
I’m trying to figure out if this is something someone could do for me (invoiced and paid please) or if I would be better coming out and dealing with it myself?
There are people who do these sorts of things, but if you are not there then a bit of a risk as whilst many who offer support services are legit some are less than relaible. Have you asked your estate agent? It is in their interest to get things sorted and sold so they can get there fee. Many have all sorts of useful local contacts.
Hi Jane, Thanks for your response. I’m not sure of job title, in English or French for someone who would do that. I also hadn’t thought of asking the estate agents for suggestions - when I’ve figured out what these people would be called I’ll ask the estate agent and also the gardener who has tamed out Jungle from time to time!
For works it would be maitre d’oeuvre, or chargé de projet ( or even a project manager,). And for sorting out house perhaps an aide menagère (not same as femme de menage).
If you are in a UK enclave you might find hand holders that cater to UK market.
Thanks Jane, deliberately chose somewhere off the beaten track, so no english people in the area that are likely to be able to help with this.
Having realised the title I was looking for was Project Manager and with a bit of digging, t’Internet came up with the rather long-winded, but delightful “chef de projet bâtiment dédié aux petits projets” I’ll see what the estate agents can come up with,
Hi Hilary, I’m in the deep south of Cher, I can’t offer you any skills, but I have some good contacts in most skills south of Bourges. I can do a drive past if required.
Anything north of the Dept, then alas, I can’t help.
I know a Dutch couple who could help, albeit on the Allier/Cher border
Just posting to say how terrible it is that someone has done so much mindless damage to your house. I just can’t understand people who vandalise just for the sake of vandalising.
I hope you have insurance cover for this sort of thing and that you get it sorted out soon.
Best wishes.
