Since Alan will be down south, probably Spain is better (closer). We have looked at prices there and they are a lot cheaper than French ones too. A couple of hours down to Girona and save a small fortune.
I would not buy them in France, it is probably the most expensive place in Europe to buy a car. I would advise you buy the car/s in the Netherlands or Germany and you will get your discount at list price...
