On winding country roads with no on coming vehicles and excellent long range visibility, do you cut across bends instead of diligently following the curves of the road?
Always.
I like to drive steadily and minimise acceleration, braking and tyre wear.

Depends. If travelling avec madame then I would need ear defenders if I tried that. When travelling solo, particularly on the Moto, then pretty much always

Never. You just never know what might be on the other side.
On RDs and RNs, I follow the road marking and stay on my side of the road.
On the local minor roads, I do what everyone else does and drive in the middle of the road until something comes the other way.
If you take the “racing line” on a public road, you need to get in sea.
Must admit to (sometimes) taking racing line if it’s perfectly safe to do so
The key here is the long-range visibility. Road is just road, when you’re the only traveler upon it. If you don’t know that you’re the only traveler then road acquires sides and boundaries.

Sadly, here in very rural France, driving in the middle of the road is standard practice.
This applies also to driving around sharp, blind bends. There are several of these bends close to our home , and experience causes me to approach with extreme care . We often I meet a vehicle on these bends driven by a person trying to quickly reach the next world.
The safest times are between 12,30 and 13.30 when lunch is being consumed!!

We had to do it yesterday coming down the Andorra road as a non-local wally had not removed the snow socks on his car and you can only do a very very low speed with those on, you didn’t even need chains to go up there yesterday to the ski slopes as it was melting but there is always one so everyone zipped past when they could see the enough of the windy bends ahead. In Brittany there was always a tractor round the next bend so you never did it unless it was 100% clear
