I would like advice on whether one would normally “tip” artisans who are working on the house at Christmas? (We have a local father and son, Masons, in the middle of working very hard on alterations to the house). I had thought of a bottle or two, but would like to know any other views first.
I wouldn’t tip them with money, but would invite them for a drink or hand them a bottle of something good. But only if they had gone above an beyond what they are contracted to do.
Had the plumber here… emergency last week.
The bill will arrive in about a month’s time.
So chuffed to have some heat again, that I offered him a bottle of Cognac…
weak smile of appreciation
asked if he preferred Armagnac…
broad smile…
one very happy chappy went off with a 1993 bottle of Armagnac…
Perhaps he wondered if that was in lieu of payment
cheeky… he works for a local company… they’ve done work for us over the years very reliable folk.
this year has been very difficult for all workers…
I felt the need to give a little somethin … the old Christmas thingy… the pleasure is in the giving…
and seeing him so obviously over the moon… was really wonderful.
I explained how we had visited the site where the A was made, chatted with grandpa who was the brewer… tasted several “vintages” and finally hiccuped our way home…
he was entranced with the story and delighted with his present…
Thanks!
