Don’t dress like a tourist

I was about to add ‘and my parents didn’t listen to them’ - there are all sorts of people I like from hearing them in the car on long drives with my parents :slightly_smiling_face:

I discovered them going backwards from Neil Young. Their eponymous 1969 album is wonderful.

My parents wouldn’t have listened to them either.

Well that was an ear opener, thank you very much :slightly_smiling_face: it was interesting hearing people whose names were familiar but whose works weren’t, alas they aren’t my cup of tea, but thank you!

Do French men still wear berets? I’ve seen them worn in the south, but that was 15 years ago. It occurs to me that in recent years on trips to Deux Sevres, I haven’t seen a beret worn. Has the beret died out or is it a regional thing? And would wearing one in Deux Sevres mark me out as a tourist???

Berets (worn by men) are still alive and well around here… but not in such great numbers as when we first arrived.

:joy::sweat_smile: wearing a beret if you are not either a private schoolchild, model on a photoshoot, or French of a certain age would mark you out as daft!

or a paratrooper!

I much prefer the one worn by the mountain regiment.

When we lived in Montsoreau, there was one older gentleman there who did wear a beret. I’m pretty sure that he was French, or at least a resident. He was the only one that I ever saw wear one, but he wore it all the time.

I mainly see berets worn by young girls. Some beautiful colours.

Seeing a beret always makes me think of the maquisards during the occupation of France in WWII.

I can’t help wondering if we’ll be needing these again soon. Both hats and chaps.

Most of us bought Berets when we visited the Pays Basque a few years ago.
Red/Black ones… worn by lads and lassies alike at that time and some still do.

My wife has some French ones in beautiful colours, while the Basque beret is popular with local market stallholders as is the wide-brimmed chapeau camarguais.

Wouldn’t dream of wearing a beret nor a breton shirt or sweater - seems too bogus on a foreigner and yet I’m happy with bleu de travail…
