You are fine for driving in France, but if you want to go to UK you will have to change your license for a french one as it is an offence to drive in UK without an up to date photo. I believe there is quite a hefty fine!!
Thanks Brian, it was the being stopped that I was worried about...
In fact, they will renew up to age 70, where in the UK one is required to be tested to see if a new one can be issues for so many years. It is far more efficient to renew here and given that your 'real' licence, the paper one, is until 2041 (makes you 42 now!) you do not need to worry about the expired photocard. Unless, of course, you are stopped...
