I have an Evolution electric piano / organ keyboard with all the connections to play through my desktop / laptop via USB but don’t know what software I need to communicate with the piano keyboard.
Are there any musos out there that can give me any advice? Or interested in buying a vey cheap one from me if it’s beyond my IT skills?
Pretty much any DAW software should do that: Abelton, Cubasis etc
(p.s. DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation - i.e. software that allows you to use your computer to write music and control real and virtual instruments.
I use Ableton Live on a Mac, with a X-key Air 37 bluetooth keyboard. But I prefer to use the USB connection which works better and means I don’t need to fiddle around with bluetooth configuration s/w. It works like a dream. As Brian says, you could use any DAW.
You could try Ableton free for 90 days. Other DAWs may have the same option. See Try Ableton Live 11 for free - 90-day Trial download | Ableton. It’s quite overwhelming at first, but bit by bit it gets easier. It depends what you want to use it for.
Thanks for that Brian
Alas I plan to sell the keyboard for 50 Euros with cables because I don’t plan to use it myself and just want to get rid of it. I only bought it as a gift for a friend who now doesnt want it. I expect I’ll put in on marketplace or donate it to the local Ti Recoup.
If you know of anyone who’d like to buy it do let me know. Picture attached.

Probably wise as it’s a previous generation of keyboard and could be a bit fiddly to set up compared to modern ones.
However, they are still in demand and regularly appear on eBay and musician-specific sites such as Reverb.com, where they seem to sell for between 30€ and 60€. Good luck with the sale!
(but why not install the free trial of Ableton and give it a go - you might find your true calling )
MuseScore on Mac, Linux and Windows (and many other OSes), allegedly allows a MIDI interface device to create partitions directly from the keyboard.
Free to use, open source.
Hi. Sounds too complicated for me to bother but thanks for your suggestion. If I have no luck the keyboard is off to Ti Rcoup for someone else to struggle with. I believe the keyboard is dated and not worth much…
