I’m looking to replace the mains electrical connectors on my UK hedge trimmer and electric chainsaw. Please can someone advise what the current spec is in France?

Do you mean the plug on the end of the cable ? Chop the old uk plug off and wire a french one on. Probably better to go for a more heavy duty one than a cheap white plastic one though.

A straight cabled 16A fiche is what you want, ideally “étanche”, but only if you are going to plug it into a matching female connector. Examples:
