ETIAS & EES introduction

Went out through Ouistreham last night, nothing had changed from the previous time.

Nothing @ Cherbourg either. Though looks like they are making preparations.

Im sure this would have been covered; but as holders of a WA Carte De Sejour, I believe we are exempt from the EES when entering France via any means ? obviously different if entering via a route to the EU prior to France.
Correct ? as I read the EES rules.

Yes I think that’s true. Although the authorities might want to have a word if you came ashore in the dead of night from a rubber dinghy…

Wouldn’t be that bad, you’d get a nice hotel a 3 square meals a day.

Nice?

I obviously meant ā€˜legal’ routes…

Hopefully, there’s now more than one processing station for foot passengers in the terminal building? The single machine we saw back in November looked a little forlorn, probably not helped by still being wrapped in plastic.

Of course - I was only joking…

On my return to France last Friday at Limoges airport they were scanning brits without CdS/TdS - fingerprints and taking face pics.

My impression is that the airports are where it’s coming in first, due to the volume of people they have to process, with ports following along.

But I usually go by ferry, hence why I asked about Oustreham and Dieppe.

Eurostar staff do not know what to do with folk with GB passport and French residency card. Every time I rock up I’m sent to the biometric scanners inspite of my protestations that it won’t work and I need to go through the channel for residents of EU. Scan fails, as predicted, and then , again in spite of protestations, am sent to the manual French booth. Then, I’m told, I need to go to the French channel. Fortunately, this time the chap took pity on us as we explained the UK ā€˜s failure to understand their own system and he let us through. He told me that UK staff have been told countless times what to do, but they ignore this. Why, oh why? It’s not rocket science.

I remember a presentatrion at the S African National Science Festival by Richard Noble, lead designer of ThrustSSC, the world’s first supersonic car. His opening sentence was, ā€˜As a retired rocket scientist, I’ve never understood why people think rocket science is difficult to understand.’

Exactly, light blue touch paper and retire

Yes well, as a rocket scientist he can say that. I could say the same about knitting a fairisle jumper to someone who can’t knit.:joy:
